Utter nonsense. What did they expect, a nice english pub on every corner knocking up a lovely carvery? It is not rocket science is it, if you are going to a different country you do your homework regarding food etc etc and deal with it accordingly, if not don't agree to go. I guess he wasn't used to the traditional Japanese cuisine, and couldn't find a pot noodle anywhere.
Looks like they found the right pub with a good carvery after the weigh in to put on almost 2 stone...
Japan is a fighting sports country. You have gajin fighters going there for boxing, mma, kickboxing and pro wrestling. Does Caldwell want us to believe that none of these foreign fighters can eat the food they need before they compete. C'mon that's just dumb.
Ota is a district of Tokyo less than an hour from the centre, a city of 13 million + people. No excuses for not having researched their stay and preparation properly to suit their requirements and personal comforts. If they are that fussy they could have brought their own food or chef at complete drastic measures. Complete amateurism
Fighting in Japan didn't seem to be a problem for Irish bantamweight Wayne McCullough 25 years ago. Mind you Wayne was a proper tough guy. He'd have "plastered" both McDonnells on the same night...one after the other...
He didn’t want to be in there. From what I seen that much even landed from Inoue. It was a combination of the weight and mentality. Walking in with a top p4p fighter known as the monster can put the shits up people.
He got ironed out because the Jap is a devastating puncher and is simply a better fighter by a country mile. Simple. Noodles or no noodles.
Not sure if this has been bought up previously but just realised McD dropped the IBF title almost the same time the IBF (for very good reason) introduced fight day weigh ins.
i think its pretty obvious now they didnt go there to win. anyone know what mcdonnell got paid for the fight?
Spot on, this was a cash out at the weight. Went in their with no pressure as he knew he'd be moving up after it regardless of the outcome. Fair play to him, went to an amazing country and can chalk it all up to experience in the grander scheme of things. Hope he ended up trying the noodles.
Both McDonnells? Perhaps. Thing is though naz wasn't a bantam was he? He was a feather, same as Barry mcGuigan, who'd have sorted him out easily.
