Schaeffer and dela Hoya, j'accuse !!!
I've just been at the Fighting Scots club in Stepps watching Craig McEwan spar. The guy is sensational! I have never seen him fitter or stronger than he is now and it shows in the ring.
What I can't understand is why GBP are ignoring him. He has only had one fight in the last twelve months but he tells me he is being ignored by his promoters Goldenboy. He has been writing to Schaeffer trying to get fights but is getting no replies to his emails. Yet he put up a fantastic display against Andy Lee and if he'd been coached properly at the Wildcard he would have blown Lee away in the early rounds.
Oscar dela Hoya has been quoted saying that, as an ex boxer himself, he would never mess about one of his own guys. Prove it, Oscar! Get this crowd-pleasing potential champion some good bouts. Over here in Scotland we would love to see him fight the likes of Barker and Macklin or at light middleweight which he could now easily get down to.

Dont think he would have blown Lee away , tbh he boxed above himself that night and Lee boxed **** for 5 rounds and he still couldnt put him away.

I thought he was down to fight Kasim Ouma.

Should sign with Eddie Hearn and fight out of Britain. Barker would be on his radar after he loses to Martinez. Martin Murray would be a good fight for him next.

I was bummed out when McEwan vs. Ouma was seemingly taken off the 9/17 card. Figured it was early optimistic reporting anyway...

There's only so much TV time and negotiating leverage to go around. :conf

It's too bad that he's getting held back for promotional reasons, but when you look up and down GBP's roster does Craig McEwan really stand out as a blue chip guy?

Fair point International Butt but the world doesn't begin and end in Californa. They could be teaming up with British promoters to get McEwan fites in Britain.
You should also remember that they renewed his contract after the Lee fight. Why did they do this if they just wanted to leave him sittin at home?
Anyway there suposed to be promoters so promote him. If he's not got a profile in America its up to promoters to build him up. What do Golden boy do anyway? I reckon without HBO theyd be noyhing. And HBO loved Creig after the Lee fight. they shoold be puting the pressure on.
All I know is that theyv got a big crowd pleaser wasting his time. he neeeds to fite soon.

Craig's situation has been really depressing. Training with Billy Nelson he has got himself into great shape, better than he ever was in the Wildcard. Craig assumed after the Lee fight he would be dropped by GBP but he tells me that both Goldenboy and HBO were all over him. I would like to tell you what I think of Goldenboy's treatment of Craig but he will not allow me to post any of it. Suffice to say I think he has paid the price for his loyalty to a number of people in Los Angeles who didn't deserve it and who have abused it over the last 5 years. What is worse is that all those who have worked with Craig recognise his potential. Guys like Hopkins and Marguerito have raved about his ability in sparring and coaches who have worked with him all tell me how great he is.
However the top coaches and promoters all seem to realise that the big money is made by poaching already established "names" and profiting off their backs. Guys like Craig who are not American and are therefore difficult to sell are ignored. Good promoters, managers and coaches should be able to spot talent and nourish it but people like that are few and far between in American boxing today.
I still believe that Craig, coached by Billy Nelson, can win a world title and I am not alone. However, the real question is whether Goldenboy Promotions can make it happen. If they are not up to the job they should release him and leave it to those who are.
