HBO always tell fighters they want to show them again. Its an empty gesture I am afriad. McEwan is years away from being on HBO. He needs to return to the UK, sign with Warren. Quick 6 round tune up and then Warren can get him the Vacant Commpnwealth title and push towards a fight with Sam Webbe.
Too brave for his own good, he totally outboxed Lee untill he decided to go toe to toe with him in that final round, and I reckon in a rematch he would outbox Lee again, he just needed to listen to his corner in that last round and he would have coasted. His combination punching was something else. Really impressed, if he can get his head right for the next fight, i can see him having a stellar career.
I think now is definitely the time to come back to the UK he has gone as far as he can in the US but he could do much worse than winning some domestic title and fighting on Burns bills
I mostly agree with that. he had it in the bag end of the fifth and then somehow allowed Lee back in. I just don't see what good he is doing out there after that loss. The money and the fans are here, not stateside.
He gassed against Lee, his corner was telling him what to do but he was that tired he wasn't even paying attention.
after the 6th round things started to change. after the knockdown in the 9th I had it level and his corner were telling him to hold on, if he managed to get through the 10th he would have lost by a point minimum. Conditioning maybe an issue.
Hasn't he talked about 154 for a while? Have always been dubious about this as whenever I've seen him fighting around 160 there doesn't look like much can come off him. Am struggling to see what fights are out there for him at 154, and on HBO. Lara v McEwan? :think Martirosyan?
both lee and mcewan are not world class, mcewan is known as a good sparring partner at the wild card, he's just like rashad hollaway he looks mint in sparring but when its his night he's pushed to his limits against journeyman type opposition, mcewan would probably win a european belt but thats as far as hes probrably going to go, andy lee isnt world class either, if emanuel steward things he has what it takes maybe they should put him in with Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam. i think n jikams last opponent would have enough to put away lee, thats how mediocre i think his skills are
Tbh as Antcull says he doesn't look like he needs to drop 6 pounds in terms of looks. He seems a middleweight. I hope this isn't a knee jerk decision which has become the norm with our modern day fighters. ''Oh i lost cos i was to small at weight'' or the usual ''i was weight drained''. Dropping 6 pounds may actually make him gas even worse and lets face it.....he gassed terribly even prior to Lee bout.
Craig belongs at Middleweight. Watching the weigh in and the fight he looked lean at the weight and would therefore struggle to come in lighter. His problem is a lack of power, which he can try to rectify by changing his conditioning routine. He needs to up his protein and incorporate more plyos, fast twitch and high velocity work to increase his snap. Just five or ten percent more power and he would have put Lee away. As for him tiring by the 9th, take a look at the fight and consider the pace it was fought at. Look at how many punches he threw and I defy anyone to name any fighter who wouldn't have been tired at that stage. No matter how hard and how well conditioned a fighter is, the human body has its limits, and by the 9th round of such an intense, fast paced fight as McEwan v Lee was in the end it's going to come down to the trenches and who can dig deep and find a little extra. Last Sat it was Lee. McEwan should have had him out of there by then, however, but the answer is not to go down in weight but to adapt his training and work on increasing his strength, power and snap.
