Amazing how many Boxers still do stuff like crunches, sit up's and 10 mile run's though.

Definitley a sport stuck in the old age when it comes to the conditioning aspect of things imho.

Look to David Haye to see how it's done in a modern fashion.

Ben made the most sensible point in this thread. Fitness and ring fitness are entirely different.

Modern fighters are conditioned to perfectly fight 12 rounds at the peak of their athletic capabilities. But thats being 'fit' in one context which is the way boxing is today. They don't seem to be fit to fight often, they don't always seem as durable under pressure. Modern fighters are not 'fit' in the way old timers were and old timers don't have the peak of performance modern fighters do for 6 monthly fights.

This isn't a hard concept to grasp, fitness is such a broad term and to make that kind of blanket statement is ignorant in the extreme. You also have to consider individuals, guys like Pascal are not partcularly boxing fit in any era.

The most important part of condotioning in boxing is the experience of sparring and fighting for real. You need to have a very specific type of fitness in boxing. Something fighters in the past had better.

Maybe Haye would have beaten Joe Frazier in a race but would he have the stamina to last with him in a 15 round fight?

Is that why Haye is exhausted after a couple of rounds in every fight?

A ****** oh no....lets insult rather than discuss boxing. :p

Haye might be explosive but he's not got great stamina. Perfect example of what I mentioned, blanket statements don't work. It's down the individual as well, Haye's stamina is naturally pretty average.

True, Frazier would have sparked Haye very early.
