Hi everyone, being a moderately long time ESB member I wanted to share a training session I recently did with fellow, like minded-ESB members who have or still do dabble in the sport. Any constructive criticism is welcome and encouraged. However, before the armchair warriors start trolling me I'll have it be known I am a self confessed novice, have no aspirations to be (or delusions of being) a world beating pro. I've just started training in ernest recently after being a long time fan of the sport and want to test myself with some amateur fights while youth still permits. Anyway, it's just a basic counter punching drill session, let me know what you think. Cheers. http://youtu.be/xSpZKk26n_E
really good. Only error i see is you don't seem to protect your chin with your left. Especially when throwing a right hand. I'd look to time your right, with another right at the same time. But maybe you have the reflexes of roy jones or the chin of margarito and can get away with it
Cheers, I get lazy with my left field guard for sure, and I pay for it against southpaws in sparring. It just feels quite hard to get the jab off with the left hand close and high.
Great job slo100. The only thing I can say is get that left hand up a little after jabbing. Few times you brought it back low but great job and keep up the training.
Keep the left up, when you jab you seem to step in very close then throw it try throwing it from a little further out. The slipping was good, the right hand looked a tidy shot and the body shots were decent. The biggest problem I saw though was you didn't seem to pivot your feet at all and you need to focus more on leaning into your shots, overall pretty good though.
Yeah there wasn't much pivoting, lateral movement in this session. I've been trying to do it more in shadow boxing. spinning off to the left is easy, but I find pivoting in to the right to feel awkward because i'm conscious of bodying in to my opponent. By leaning in to shots do you mean leaning in to the body rips? or even say the straight right hand? I intentionally don't over pronounce my straight right and like to stay on top of my balance whenever I throw it.
The leaning into the shots will come naturally when you pivot so I wouldn't worry about conciously trying to change that. I would guess the reason your not really pivoting is because your feet are flat, try and work on staying up on the balls of your feet.
looking good there, bro. your combinations could be a bit more fluid, but that's about all i can "critique." good technique and such. how old are you?
Looks good. Fundamentals are there, nothing to be ashamed of, you're not a pro. My advise to young fellows is to work along speed, footwork and conditioning. Learn how to avoid to get hit at the same time you learn how to land a punch. Good luck mate!
