I was unaware of this, but I've always been convinced Greene would beat him head-to-head. Pavlik? He may never 'be ready' for Pavlik, as I think Pavlik has the tools to match-up well against Greene. How long before he's ready for the top ten? Maybe I'm pushing him into the spotlight too quickly, but I think he's just about there. Maybe another 2 or 3 fights this year, and he'll be ready for a big name middleweight this time next year? Maybe sooner?
I saw Joe Greene one time on Espn last year. I thought he looked to be a good but not great type of fighter. But then again one fight isn't enough to judge a fighter by. I hope some of these middleweight prospects turn out. Lee, Quillan, Greene and maybe another one or two will hopefully add some quality depth that division is lacking. After Pavlik, Abraham, and Winky(if he plans on boxing again), theres not much depth at 160. Just a bunch of guys who you can call respectable but not the types to set up any kind of major challenger to Pavlik. It would be nice to see atleast one or two of them become a major player there.
To be honest, i saw Joe Greene fight and he was impresive buti would need to see him step up before saying he is the real deal. I would like to see him fight my man Sébastien Demers. Demers got destroyed by Abraham but learned a lot and is better then ever now. Demers himself expressed the wish to fight Greene. That would make a good fight and Demers is very skilled thought he is not strong and doesn't have much power I think he could give a lot of trouble to Joe.
I saw him for the first time last saturday and had never heard of him before that. You can see my comments and other people's here http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48406
Fair enough, but even though he's only 22 years old, he really seems to know what he's doing inside the ring. He looks very seasoned for such a young prospect, and I maintain he has a bright future. It is true that we need to see how he fares against better competition, but from what I have seen, Greene isn't simply being pitted against no-hope stepping-stones looking for a payday. He's been in there with some tough veteran journeyman who come to fight. Whereas, in my estimation, Kid Chocolate is being pitted against opponents who make him look good. IU'd be surprised if Greene isn't in the mix for a long time to come once he breaks the big time.
