    I have trained and sparred in boxing but never understood the fundamentals at all. My coaches were more like trainers than teachers so i haven't been educatated properly in the fundamentals of boxing.

    I always used to push off my back foot when throwing a jab and sought of jump into my jab. When doing this i was always very stationary after throwing the jab and would almost fall into my opponent or just stop after jabbing the heavy bag. To avoid this sometimes i would just throw my jab without moving my feet (arm punch).

    As for my straight right hand, i would always throw it without moving my feet. Even though gym mates said my punches were hard and my trainer said my right hand is good, i wasn't happy with it because in wanted to use my leg. Eventually i started kicking my right heel but did not know why i was doing that and never turned my waist as well.

    Weight distribution and balance was also not explained to me at all and i watched how to throw the left hook and uppercut on youtube but do not understand the mechanics properly.

    In short, I would like to know;
    1) should my weight be on my front leg, back leg or neutral.
    2) To throw the right hand, should i shift my weight momentarily to my back leg.
    3) To throw the left hook, should i shift my weight momentarily to the front leg before rotating my front leg.
    4) To throw the right hook, should i have my weight on my front leg or my back leg.
    5) To throw the uppercut, do you sit down and then explosively sit up with both legs in a neutral position and then lift your left or right hand as you rise?
    6) To throw the jab i am assuming that i move my left leg forward but do i land on my toes or heels first?

    Understand what moves you and why. Then realise in most things, the head doesnt move, its the body that moves the head. Use the joints that are most flexible, Knees and elbows, as they will give you better adaptability as regards distance direction and depth. Plus how the thumb has a role in all this. :D.

    Most things we do involve the thumb. Our shoulders elbows, hips evolved because of the thumb, also posture. Mostly it gives or helps our I/Q, wonderful piece of kit. :D.

    Never did understand why some people pull the thumb up whilst striking, when it's done with the thumb going downward whilst striking.

    Hip is sharply pivot before the arm. Left hook, weight transfers to the right leg, right hand, weight transfers to the lead leg with a sharp pivot over the straight leg. The left side has to format a straight line with feet and shoulder to optimize pivot

    Interesting you say that. Have you spent time with those without thumbs? I have (guy that lost a dominant one due to injury). It very interesting. You would enjoy/concur with the findings.
