Nah Wid wasn't referring to you mate although don't agree totally with you but understand what you mean :good.

  7. Widdy I haven't got a problem with people wanting the fight to continue that's fair enough although you said you thought it should of been stopped

What annoys me and you are far from the only one people coming on here and saying its part and parcel of boxing deal with it

Me and others thought the fight should of been stopped so get accused of being fannys, not real boxing fans etc
You come across as though your trolling why not put your point across differently if you think that's part of the game

Everyone has different opinions and I wouldn't argue with someone unless they start being dicks and just offending people for no reason

    All done now,forget it

You wouldn't get a boxing licence if you only had sight in one eye. (In the UK at least, less developed countries may be different).
If you had a licence and admitted during a pre fight medical that you couldn't see out of one eye, then you wouldn't be allowed to fight.

These rules sound perfectly reasonable, so surely if you lose vision in an aye during a fight, then you shouldn't be allowed to continue. You can't see the punches coming on that side so you can't slip them or roll with them. You also lose your depth perception, which is also a major disadvantage.

Some fighters in the past have boxed without sight in one eye, but at least they found a way to adapt. Suddenly losing sight in one eye during a fight is a catastrophe, there's no way to adapt during the fight.

Eyes swell up like they do in order to protect the eye from damage, pounding on that swelling could seriously damage the eye. It seems really obvious to me that a fight should be stopped at that point. A badly swollen eye can heal, and the fighter can fight again. A detached retina or something similar is not going to heal so easily.

It isn't necessarily a "catastrophe". People can fight OK with one eye. We have seen it done. (Even if no doubt it is a disadvantage.)

    Based on?

OK, but that's not a proof of medical harm!

    Quote:

"Former WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (25-2, 19 KOs), who suffered a horrible and frightening hematoma over his right eye and had his facial lines badly distorted during the last Friday's TKO 11 loss to Guillermo Jones (39-3-2, 32 KOs) of Panama, was successfully released from the hospital yesterday. All of the necessary examinations have been carried out and no career-threatening damage to Lebedev's eye have been revealed."

Of course, one case isn't much of a proof of anything. What would be good evidence would be to look at many cases.

But then, just making assertions about it being "dangerous" from someone that probably isn't medically trained and probably has never researched the issue, isn't much of a proof of anything either. It's actually the kind of dumb behaviour I was objecting to in the OP!

You gotta be a special kind of slow to ask for medical evidence in a public forum. How about you talk to a Doctor or let someone close one of your eyes and you report back and tell us what happened?

Heck, why does a guy need to see at all? Why not let blind people fight?

I’m sure OP can tell us that it’s dangerous to box anyway so what’s the difference if they can’t see any punches coming … or see to hit their opponent for that matter.

    SMFH.
