oh so internet gambling websites came together and told sergio medina they would kill him if he didnt get ko'd in the first round?

and who would have bet medina the bookies would have lost money it would make sense if they told juanma to take a fall

My point exactly. In saying he threw the fight, his entire reputation is tarnished and it makes him look like a cheat. Why would he say he did it until it was true.

you dont have to be from the us to know its unlikely you just have to have a brain in your head it was in vegas on a the night of the biggest fight of the year there is always a heavy police presence on the strip so i cant imagine how it is on a fight night theres always 1000 people walking around he could have easily made it out 12rds and left without being killed he simply didnt want to fight

I think he's just trying to save his face to hopefully continue to have a boxing career(who would pay to see that guy after that performance).

In saying he threw the fight, that isn't saving face.

If he faked an injury, that would be saving face to an extent.

he wants to make people feel bad he aint saying i took 100,000 to fall in the fight hes saying they were going to kill me if i didnt fall in the first round boo hoo

the aregintina people dont care about a fix i would think they would like him less if he said im just a ***** who didnt want to get hit i didnt want to fight i just wanted to get a check real quick

besides that he didnt have reputation here he didnt say this to american news papers this is in his country so they dont think of him as just some dude who doesnt really want to fight

and remember hes aware he was brought in to lose he was going to lose anyway he just decided he didnt want to waste more of his time

Someone who put a lot of money on Juamna winning in the first you dip****. There was action in Vegas (despite statements to the contrary in this thread), as well as online, and probably with illegal bookies as well. In this day and age, you can bet a LOT of money on something without people really knowing about it simply because there are so many different places where it's easy to place a bet.

I agree with the poster who said he's an idiot if this is the truth though. If it's true, you either report it to the police beforehand or you shut the hell up afterwards so you still don't have whoever made the threat coming after you and you don't get a permanent ban from the Nevada Athletic Commission (which legally they're required to do, and thus you can no longer fight in the US). I can't think of why he would say this if he was making it up (if he was making excuses, he could have said he was sick or something more innocuous), but he's really dumb if he thinks this will lead anywhere good.

By the powerful fists of JuanMa?

Of course. If the tough-as-nails and proven Ponce de Leon haven't 'lived' to fight a 2nd round, how could he? :D JuanMa's vaunted power might kill him in the 2nd, so what's the point risking it? He will still get the same exact pay no matter and he is not getting any bonuses for staying longer anyway...:hey

He should've sworn in God's name, that would've been more credible.(re: swearing is for pussies).

    There.

come on dude you think some regular ass better who just had alot of money on this fight found his way to medina to tell him he was going to kill him if he did make it out of the first

and like i said if medina believed this would he take the chance of the ref stopping it cause i wouldnt have stopped it if i was that ref he barely took any punishment

i dont believe this bull**** for a second

If he was so afrraid to throw the fight, why he has now the guts to speak? The fight was thrown for shure , but that is not the real reason.

It used to happen all the ****ing time. A "regular ass bettor" tracked down and killed Andres Escobar for scoring an own goal in USA's Wirld Cup win over Columbia. A regular ass bettor threw the 1919 World Series by paying off the Black Sox. There are a number of old-time fights that were rumored to have been thrown by individual bettors rather than bookmakers. Now, there's even more risk of a "regular ass bettor" taking this type of action, because it's easy for bettors to hide that they have a lot of action on a fight, if they want to.

If it was a bookmaker making the threat, they'd have no reason to care about what round it occurred in, and if anything, he would have told him to dive in the 6th or later because I'd guess that more money was put down on an early-round KO anyway.

acutally the white sox first baseman came up with the idea to throw the game and a mobster from new york backed him

and andreas wasnt killed by regular ass better lol the medellin cartel and big time colombian bookies were leaning on them to lose not some regular ass better

and as for old fighters 90% of that was controlled by the mob again not by regular ass bettors you dont know what the **** your talking about dip****....
