meehan losing by unanimous decision, huttered right now:verysad [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiR0amJOpN0"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiR0amJOpN0[/ame]
unfortunately his left hand was just lingering out there and was only trying to set up the one big shot... the last round he actually started going to the body and looked dangerous for the first time in the fight... hopefully it was a good pay for him? maybe he can get a few more depending how far he drops down the rankings..
how good was the abner mares and johnny perez fight! also marquez just mentioned darchinyan might be next in line... i love vic but jeese he would have to be 110 percent to beat vasquez i think... would be a war!
Yeah too long sitting on the shelf for Kali, although I understand why he couldnt get hold of Valuev or Chagev till now I still dont see why he couldnt get any heavyweight action for the last few years after busting up Williamson, at the very least a few 10 rounders would have payed well for him. At any rate no one can ever say he didnt give it his all in his career and he shouldnt retire with too many regrets
Not sure why Meehan kept moving to his right.....walked right into the power left hand.....he also looked lost for an answer to fighting and defending on the inside. Just wish he threw more upper cuts, body shots and right hooks because the straight right never got through. He will be better for the 12 rounds so interesting to see who he fights next....I was hoping for the win so the fight was hard to watch atsch
it was obvious that his only real problem was just not letting his punches go enough. his corner constantly told him to let his punches go and to stay off the ropes, but unfortunately he didn't listen. when he did let his punches go he looked great. it stopped chagaev from coming forward and meehan was landing some good shots. he just didn't do it often enough. i don't think chagaev can ko kali no matter how many times they were to fight. meehan can take his good shots i believe. don't know what happens to his ranking, but off that performance i would expect there would be plenty of fighters willing to fight him now to take his ranking. he should be much better for the hitout though u would think.
Well if some other fighter wants a piece of him he needs to take the opportunity quicksmart time is not on his side
he won 2min30 of most rnds then walk into a corner and cop a left hand, make it look worse than it was and lose the rnd, also hunger from both fighters was frustrating.Too absent with 2 yrs off and at his age not a good thing, overall good representation of himself for such a layoff but not worthy of a title shot(neither of them).
Spot on both points. Meehan looked well out of sorts. To little much to late. Plenty of respect for him for getting the motivation to take this fight and press 12 rounds. His performance and demeanor was that of a fighter who has resigned himself to becoming a somewhat of a journeyman at the international level. What surpises me more than Meehans lack lustre performance was Chagev complete inability to assert his dominance during every round of this fight. Chagev at almost unbackable (Meehan $5) odds should have wiped the floor with Meehan. Chagev was very unimpressive for a heavyweight champion contender. Chagev clearly won this fight but really narrowly won each round for the unanimous decision. Very few effective puches thrown and very few telling blows. Chagev will want to step it up a notch (about 5 notches) if he is to have any chance against David Haye. Based on this performance against Meehan he wont get near David Haye.
lacked confinence too. everytime meehan moved forward and threw a couple of shots, he looked quite good, and the more dangerous fighter. he just barely tried to assert his authority that's all. like he didn't want to rush things. i think considering that meehan had been out for so long and barely pressed the trigger he did ok. if he was to be able to fight chagaev in 4 months time again i think chagaev would be in trouble. as long as meehan learnt from this fight that is.
