Yes, just like the subject title says, that is what happened, and happen it did on this Tuesday last 9/8/2020. I have mentioned a few times that I am from, still live, likely always will at that, in Davenport, Iowa. Davenport is the hometown of Antwun Echols, Michael "Second To" Nunn, and a fighter named Brandon Burke whom i guarantee many of you will recognize upon watching the embedded video. I met Antwun Echols last Tuesday at a local bus station. I overheard him talking about Nunn's "old a$s coming back so I am gonna try and fight again too..." he then said something to who he was talking to about having been on HBO, which was true, he was beaten by B-Hop in their rematch on HBO. So at this point, realizing who he must be I asked politely if he was Antwun, and he was nice enough to talk with me for a few minutes. I mentioned having very recently rewatching the fight he had with Brewer, which is a very entertaining fight, although not all that long. He goes down twice in the 4th I think it is. He said something like "Man, I hadn't been hit that hard in any fight before that. Each time I got up I thought I was ok, but when saw it on tape later I realized he ef'd me up bad. I was like "damn, I don't remember doin' that..." I didn't really catch his example though. Echols wins by stoppage in the following rd, which many think is a sh it ee stoppage, but I don't think it is all that bad. I mentioned the stoppage and how a lot of internet fight fans call it a bogus stoppage.Told him that I thought the ref had a legit reason for stopping it, and maybe by my saying so I gotta bit of a compliment outta him. Anyhoo. That is that This content is protected
Man if he comes back then we're gonna have an epidemic of completely washed fighters coming back. I blame Tyson and Jones. If their fight makes a ton of money (and I'm sure it will), the flood gates will open.
Good stuff!! I remember watching that Echols vs Brewer fight live on TV. What a hell of a war that was. Echols was an exciting fighter.
Dude, washed isn't even remotely the word for what Echols would be if he were to climb under the ropes somewhere with taped hands underneath some boxing gloves. I thought it was cool to come across the guy as I am a fairly big fan of the sport and living where I do, running into fairly known fighters, let alone fighters who can truthfully claim to have been, at some point in their careers, legitimate title contenders, just is NOT a thing likely to happen again. I mean, I am 39 yrs old now and it has only ever happened this one time. But, as usual, I tangented off course there a bit. Point is Echols isn't washed at all, not at all whatsoever. What he is, is an unknown number of rungs below washed. Check out his boxrec. You will see that he lost something like 19 of his last 22ish fights or some awfulness like that. So then, once more, and with feeling, this dude isn't a washed up fighter, he is a bad accident waiting to happen.
Echols was a nutass. His two bouts with Hopkins were nothing if not entertaining. The first one being the better of the two. Echols once in awhile lined up Hopkins. Stunned him in round 12 of fight 1. He was just a nut.
We also shouldn't forget that, at least as of 2013, he THINKS he has 19 children scattered about the land. He is the kinda fertile where women shouldn't stand within 6 feet of him if it is raining outside, nor be in the same swimming pool with the dude
Echols was dangerous for a minute. Loved the Brewer fight. I remember he went to Australia and lost to that loudmouth Mundine then didn’t hear from him again. Recently checked to see how his career planned out and saw he’d basically just lost fight after fight and his record is close to .500
