melbourne boxing gym

    I will be moving to melbourne soon from new zealand and will be looking for a gym so i can continue too fight. Im an amateur at the moment. Can anyone recomend a choice gym with skilled fighters. I will be fairly central and am willing to travel for the right trainer and gym. Your help will be much appreciated.

    Depends where you live.
    Try Murray Thompson's 'Fighters factory' in Blackburn.
    Paul Ferreri in Nth Subs..
    I'm not sue if Keefy Ellis still runs a gym..

    Flamengo tried to pm you but wouldnt allow me. Not eneough posts yet. I will be moving to a place called footscray. I am not looking for the closest gym but a quality trainer and stable. If i hav to travel thats not a problem.

    If ya looking to live in Footscray, have a look at Preston's Northside gym.

    Its about 20 mins drive before peak hour.

    Who are you currently training with??

    Whats your basic credential??

    Whats your aspirations??

    Answering any of the 3 questions would open a better guide to who you might be better referred to. Mate, if you just turn up as an AM form NZ, you may as well **** off to Bondi. They all live there.

    There are a number of gyms in fairly close proximity to Footscray. There's a handy list at this address (though it may be slightly out of date):

    If you check the street map you'll see that from that list probably Altona, Avondale Heights, Braybrook, Footscray & Sunshine are reasonably close. From there it's a matter of having a chat with these guys and see who best suits your needs.

    As Flamengo said, Keith Ellis (brother & former trainer of world champ Lester Ellis) does run a gym out that way (but it's not in the list on that web page). If you keep an eye on the site below they'll list Keith's phone number soon - for the upcoming Sunshine fight night (as a contact for tickets for that event):

    Paul Ferreri, former commonwealth title holder runs the gym at Avondale Heights. His phone number and details are listed on the other site mentioned above.
