The 1990 Chavez fight clearly broke him. If the fight had note been refereed by a Don King puppet, and Taylor had got the result he deserved, would he have gone on to establish himself as a HOF fighter? For me he was the most exciting prospect of the late '80s.
I dunno I agree with you that he got robbed in the Chavez fight but Pyshically he was beaten so bad that I don't think even if he got the decision he deserved he wouldn't have been the same fighter. That fight took Meldrick Taylor prime away from him.
Taylor was done at the end, he didn't respond after Steele asked him twice if he was OK. Chavez deserved the win. That said, Taylor would be hell for anybody in his weightclass. He was an amazing talent, and a very fun fighter to watch.

Physically he would have been the same. But the "W" on his record would have been helpful in his recovery even though he would never be the same again.
Taylor still would've been less than 100% after the Chavez fight, win or lose. He took a bad beating. He was still a good fighter afterwards, but took too much punishment in general. His management putting him in there with Norris was a bad decision.
i may get a hiding for this but i truely belive that he didnt do anything a sugar shane mosely couldnt do. i truely belive that mosely could have replicated that performance against chavez that night meldric taylor and mosely have an uncanny similairity in that there both high speed brawlers, taylor could have been an improoved version of shane mosely dominating the 140 division before getting taken to school by the master pernell whitaker
Mosley didn't have the volume that Taylor had, though. Mosley hit harder and loaded up on more blows, but didn't throw at the ridiculous rate that Taylor did. Mosley vs Taylor, that would've been a very interesting fight.
Wow, great example, one round! Mosley didn't throw as many punches as Taylor did for the course of the fight. He preferred to throw harder shots and loaded up on them more than Taylor. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but Taylor's workrate is what was really winning him the fight against Chavez. He was faster and simply threw more and landed more shots, even though Chavez was landing the harder blows.
so you think this whole notion of mosely replicating taylors performance against chavez should be dismissed? u seem to know your boxing history i'm only 21 guy go easy
I'm not saying it should be totally dismissed, it's possible though I don't think it would happen. I'm just saying the example of ONE ROUND of great activity is a terrible example.
