I saw that fight live on ABC in primetime. Lou Duva's stable of newly minted Olympian medalists turned pro togeher. Whitaker beat his guy the easiest. The fighters were matched fairly tough for pro debuts. Holyfield oupointed Lionel Byrum.

A few fights later, Taylor's opponent, Roberto Medino, was arrested, if I remember correctly, as he walked back to his dressing room on an outstanding warrant.

    Good stuff.

Signing a bunch of the crop of 1984 Olympians was the smartest move Duva and Main Events ever made.

They were a second tier promotional outfit before this.

They had signed a bunch of top 1980 ameteurs, and many flopped or left.

Whitaker, Holyfield and Taylor all excelled and stayed loyal to the Duvas throughout the rest of the 1980's.
