Quality fighter Taylor, i'd like to see a few more with his heart nowadays.
I really didn't like Chavez for that victory, even though he was an outstanding fighter i never really took to him has a person. Felt so sorry for Taylor.
Meldrick fought his heart and soul out in the ring and sadly he now show's the affects of this.
    Big respect.

Taylor was an excellent fighter for a short period of time @ 140. His punch resistance was never the same post-Chavez, after moving up to 147 and taking that brutal beating.

Taylor was small and at a power disadvantage at 147 anyway, and the division was about to be loaded, so I don't buy all this "he was an ATG in the making" talk. He was always going to struggle at WW, with or without the physical/mental damage of the Chavez loss, and I think he was always going to be one of those shooting stars rather than a guy with longevity at the highest level.

I like the Glenwood Brown fight, for the way Taylor came back. You could see Taylor showing signs of decline, particularly with his punch resistance, but he battled his way back in there from the early KDs to win a rough decision over a solid contender. That was his last win of note.

His management shamelessly cashed out on him in the next fight, having him fight Terry Norris @ 150.5. Cristano Espana was a mandatory however, so they couldn't avoid him. He was a horrible, horrible matchup for Taylor with his size and dimensions.

What a fighter he was, athleticism paired with some boxing talent is always an exiting combo.

As I remember him, I thought he was slick, even in that first vid posted here, very good at moving his upper body after throughing combos. Very fast on his feet, in and out.

He was good. Beat Buddy McGirt.

One of my favourite fighters in the late 80's, early 90's.

What is Meldrick doing nowadays? I know he released a book fairly recently.

Anyone got any recent links of him? Its sad his speech is slurring now. A sign of brain damage.

Even beating a boring fighter light Buddy McGirt and winning just about every minute of every round it was still fun to watch. That says something about a guy's entertainment value.

He was an exciting fighter, but Howard Davis gave him problems after his prime, and he was definitely never the same after Chavez. He beat Buddy McGuirt in a way I thought no one could, however. He was somewhat like a jr welterweight version of Michael Dokes.

The only thing he missed was fight-changing punching power but otherwise he had all the qualities required of a truly exciting and crowd-pleasing fighter. Really feel bad about the way it turned out for him, he deserved better.
