Taylor wasn't the same at 147 as he was at 140, but the pre-Norris Taylor still has enough to pull off a win. I think he'd shake off some rough moments to win a pretty good fight.
If Meldrick Taylor isn't so bright, Berto is Simple Jack. The Taylor that beat Aaron Davis would wipe the floor with Berto.
First of all Berto is bigger and just as fast. It never fails. If youre retired and are compared to a current fighter, the current fighter doesn't stand a chance. Styles make fights. Taylor fought with more heart than smarts. That would put him in serious trouble with a guy like Berto.
It's really this simple: Taylor won on points till getting TKO'd by JCC in the twelfth. Berto is nowhere near Chavez's level in any sense.. He'd get comfortably decisioned and that would be the end of it. Berto just isn't that good.
Of course Berto isn't as fast or as big as Chavez. You're right nobody stands a chance against Taylor except Chavez, Norris, oh my Wayne Martel. Berto is not an injured McGirt.
Wayne Wartel beat Taylor at the end of his career, after brain damage and accumulated punishment left him a RUINED fighter. When has Berto beaten somebody as good as Buddy McGirt or Aaron Davis DECISIVELY? Never. He struggled to beat Collazo, and his next best wins are over Quintana, Forbes, and Urango. The Meldrick Taylor than beat Aaron Davis would beat Berto up. You're talking about Taylor not fighting smart and not using his head. WTF does Berto do? Fight real intelligently? No. Not at all.
I'm not saying Berto is as smart as Floyd in the ring but Taylor was more wreckless. That's my opinion if I'm allowed to have one.
Taylor may have been reckless, but he made up for it often with his physical attributes, which pretty much worked for him until he met Chavez who broke his career with his fists. Berto might be able to capitalize, but probably not enough to KO Taylor, and he would have to KO him to win, period.
This is a nice speed demon match-up. Of course Meldrick wins a very wide decision - he might even drop Berto but probably doesn't stop him.
Hell, that version of Meldrick could come into a fight weighing 140 with Berto coming in just under the welterweight limit and still be fine and dandy. Berto's got natural strength but not the know-how to use it, and he ain't hurting Taylor on his best day.
