His speed and workrate would probably give Curry something to think about. His lack of intelligence, however, coupled with Curry's technical mastery would probably be his undoing in this one. I'll take Don.
Not a chance, esp. not at 147. The slick Meldrick doesn't have the guns necessary to offset the Cobra.
Agreed^^^ I think Taylor might win 1 or 2 of the early rounds with his still blinding speed but once the Cobra strikes its all downhill for Taylor. Curry ko 5.
Not the Curry who wasted McCrory in 1985... NO WAY!! But Taylor of 1991 might get past the faded Curry who lost to Honeyghan in the fall of 1986... MR.BILL:hat
I agree with everybody...Curry around the 5-6th round. Curry might drop a couple of early rounds, while sizing him up.
I'm in agreement with everyone saying Donald would take care of Meldrick by the sixth round. He had too much skill for Meldrick to handle at this weight.
Yey i can easily see a Prime Taylor(Pre Chavez) moving up and whupping a Post Honeyghan version of Curry. Earlier when i picked Curry it was the Pre-Honeygahn version vs the Post Chavez Taylor.
As much as I liked Meldrick, I can't favor him, and for the same reasons people on this thread wrote years ago. Curry was not the most durable man in the world, but neither was Taylor, and he had nothing to hurt Donald with. Meldrick's key to his early career success was a type of style, speed and workrate that rendered most of his opponents overmatched..... But it wouldn't likely be the case here......Donald's speed, superior skill, natural size and punching power would give him some colossal advantages.. Its possible that Meldrick may have been slightly faster, even by the time he reached 147. But whatever additional advantages in speed he had - It wouldn't be enough..
Bump A prime Donald Curry would be too sharp And skilled even for a talent like Meldrick. This would be similar to the Nino LaRocca fight where Curry uses his better technique and sharper punches to beat the quicker, flashier fighter. Curry by TKO
Curry. I think Meldricks activity would make it competitive but Curry's better power and defense would see him home to a late stoppage or decision.
Donald The Cobra Curry would be way too sharp, too skilled and would have too much firepower for the likes of Meldrick Taylor, who would be moving up to Cury's natural weight of 147 lbs. The Cobra was flawless in his victorious over Nino La Rocca and Colin Jones as well as his knockout victory over Milton McCrory in 1985 to unify the World Welterweight Title. Donald by TKO 6.
