Meldrick Taylor vs Floyd Mayweather Jr at 140lbs

i thought you would agree with me for once, i was wrong.

you cant say FMJ at LWW is a top ighter H2H there he is not at SFW he was amazing but above 135 he wasnt as effective

 

He's fast but people rate him over Roy Jones and Leonard and for 1 punch speed he hasnt got that, plus he doesn't put that much power in them, which is a factor

At the end of the day Floyd has managed to keep his opponents around 20% connect percentage and has been hit clean with meaty a handfull of times, watch the slow mos, its hard to find Floyd getting hit clean.

 

yeh Taylor is fast his flurries are super duper fast but like you say no power but the way he would fight FMJ he dont need power.

I agree. But there wasn't nearly as big a drop-off at 135 and 140 as there was at 147. He was still an excellent fighter at those weights, he just wasn't dominant against top opposition.

 

i thought he started to be noticably worse at 140. at 135 he was still good but at 140 he lost alot of it.

he wasnt as dominate against top opposition but still won so maybe he didnt slip as much as i think he did. I think this fight is more how much you hink FMJ had left at 140 than how good Taylor was IMO

:huhI don't see how you come to this conclusion. He had one of the most dominant performances of his cvareer at 140 against Gatti and dominated both Bruseles and Corley. At 135 he dominated N'Dou and Sosa and was pushed to the edge by Castillo. If anything, he looked his worst at 135 based on the Castillo fight. I didn't notice any drop-off at all at 140, where he flat out dominated.

 

yeh but his competition wasnt the same and he didnt look as impressive IMO going by results and scores you dont notice a differnce but i do performance wise.

I thought Floyd won the Castillo fights fairly handily

 

At 140 he fought Gatti, Bruseles, and Corley. He dominated each of them. At 135, outside of Castillo, he fought N'Dou and Sosa, and dominated both. There's really not much difference in that level of competition at all. It's all pretty poor, and the fights he did face an elite opponent (at 135) in Castillo, he looked a lot less impressive.

It just doesn't equate my man.

 

your right i got carried away abit my argument is on ethe manner of performances i dont think he looked as good and had lost afew attributes

Even though Taylor had the great workrate and extremely fast flurries, I pick Floyd here for reasons already mentioned.

Smarter, more well rounded, terrific at adapting.

Floyd wins a 7-5, 8-4 type fight.
