    i love taylor...i wanna say taylor. but i can't

taylor had faster hands, equally speedy feet and threw far better combinations

mayweather is technically brilliant and far, far smarter. taylor would outwork him, take a lead in points but eventually mayweather would figure him out, time him and land that right hand on his face over and over

    tight mayweather UD, 7-5

I will take Taylor, but let me state that I love Meldrick and can't stand Floyd so that could be swaying me lol...

Mel's hands were so fast, he had blinding speed and moved like a Dream.. But I want the Mel going into the 1st fight with Chavez, after that one he was never the same...

    Taylor Dec..

tnt is gonna be the sentimental favourite and he was in the fight of the decade, "robbed" (according to many) and thereafter his career went on a slide. his talent was very nearly unmatched in the past 25 years....and yet it's hard to give him this one. just too many flaws to be exploited

It's weird how some fighters even though they're really talented and fundamentally sound, are sometimes so easy to hit clean. Meldrick Taylor was like that, so was Larry Holmes and Juan Manuel Marquez today.

Mayweather would beat Taylor on a decision with clean punches and combat effectiveness. He'd punch inbetween Meldricks shoeshines.

Taylor would give Mayweather problems with his workrate and speed but ultimately I think Floyd's superior intelligence, defense, and technical skills would be the difference. I think there would be a few sequences where Taylor gets the loud response from the crowd with a flashy flurry, meanwhile he'll eat the much cleaner shot from Mayweather while this happens.

    Floyd by 8-4 type decision.

I think Floyd will figure out pretty quickly he needs to take a Castillo II strategy to eek this one out.

Standing his ground and trying to Toney his way to victory or retreating in straight lines to the ropes will just be quite silly. Taylor is just to quick, busy and varied in his attack..he might miss a ton and take a ton but I think he will do enough to bag rounds off the generally conservative Floyd. Taylor showed he has a solid set of cajones and in his prime he can stand up to a proper beating. So anything Floyd hits him with won't slow him down to much.

I can really see Floyd losing a decision he probably didnt deserve to but close enough to be debatable.

If everything is on a level playing field though I got Floyd just...If he keeps moving and offsetting Taylor like Davis did until he tired he should get home. Unlike Davis when Floyd stops to punch he will be honing in shots a lot more accurately whilst, plus he wont tire. As I said before I think he needs to take that just enough strategy from the Castillo fight to get by Taylor, it won't be popular but that won't matter as long as the W is in his column.

@ War you know that was a learning experience for the Young Taylor. That fight was Young Hot shot vs experienced vetran... Taylor improved after that fight.

If we're talking Mayweather Sr. then my vote goes to Taylor.

    But Mayweather jr?

    Easily Floyd.

    Very true...and he certainly did.

But I dont recall him fighting a stylist like that again..I think most of the fighters he fought after tended to complement him by standing toe to toe.

Well some would say Buddy mcgirt, but then again Buddy became more of a slick boxer when he moved up. When he was a JW and fought Taylor he usually stood in front of his opponents more and had more of slugger/boxer mentality.

Well he did put in a great effort against Buddy McGirt, who could play chess with the best of them (admittedly not as good as Floyd) and was a big puncher at 140. It's the stamina and workrate which would give Meldrick a chance here. Before Chavez he was really something else and Mayweather is pretty stingy with his output, after that it's not worth imagining what Mayweather Jr. would do to him.

The difference would be Mayweather defense and slickness. Even though Meldrick was fast he was just too easy to hit for a accurate, precise potshotter like Floyd, Taylor's balance wasn't that great either, it got worse after Chavez though. Going "life and death" with Glen Brown and Garcia and being destroyed by the much bigger Terry Norris, whilst wearing tarzan shorts...very hard to watch. :-(

    Edit: damn you, Anarci. lol
