First I don’t think he is big/strong enough to be great above 140. I do think 2 of his best performances however did fall at WW against Aaron Davis and Glenwood Brown. But Napoles was a level above them.

I can see Meldrick keeping this competitive for 2-3 rounds, but much like his fight with Norris at 154 he won’t have to pop in his punch necessary to dissuade Napoles. Napoles turns up the intensity and stops Taylor in 8

Don't mean to knitpick but didn't Glenwood have Taylor down 2 or 3 times? I agree that 47 wasn't where he should have been. The Duvas thought they were slick moving him up. There was someone at 40 they didn't want.

Not knit picking at all mate. Not sure if it was 1-2- or 3 but yes he was down early. Maybe I am overstating but my memory is of him dominating the last 6-7 rounds of the fight.

Taylor had awesome raw ability, but Napoles had great ring IQ on top of his own physical gifts, which were considerable. Taylor tended to be too brave for his own good and that would play in to Napoles' hands here. Napoles thought nothing of carrying the fight to a proven banger like Charles, and even Monzon when he spotted him 7 lb. Taylor would bag some rounds, but he can't keep Napoles off him. Napoles applied pressure in such a subtle, consistent way and had an underrated nasty, spiteful edge when he got in control.

I think he eventually cracks Taylor's code and systematically breaks him down after a few problems early. Napoles by TKO any time after the eighth or ninth round, with Taylor having taken a lot of punishment towards the end.

Napoles was far better than Taylor but at 140 Taylor was more effective, he was not however a world class welter, at that weight Napoles would toy with him.

Taylor would of course start fast, but he didn't have the power to seriously bother a fighter with the capability of Napoles. Napoles was on a different level. Napoles would adjust to Taylor s speed of hand , take advantage of Taylor's willingness to trade punches, stop Taylor within 10rds. Absolutely no controversy in this fight , just a methodical beat down.
