Anyone who takes the time to read the debate in this thread, and has a higher IQ than Forrest Gump...will clearly agree that the stoppage was legit.
I don't even need to read a hundred posts to know that. As frustrating as it may be for Taylor and his family and fans, he simply didn't show enough alertness in that final moment. Sort of like Jermain Taylor, in his stoppage losses (except the last one, where he didn't even get up). Or Mayorga vs. Mosley. None of the above were bad stoppages - it's just dumb shitty luck that Meldrick, Jermain, and Ricardo couldn't hold their **** together under fire long enough to hold on that extra couple of moments.
Dude, when they interviewed Taylor, Taylor said Richard Steele DIDN'T GIVE HIM A COUNT, DIDN'T ASK HIM IF HE WAS OKAY, AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING TO HIM....!!!! We all saw Steeles ugly mug 3 inches from Taylors busted up swollen face yelling and signaling to him the count, and CLEARLY asking him if he was "OKAY". Taylor didn't even know what the **** was happening. Taylor was KO.
I beleive Steele made the right call, he could have looked at the light in the corner and allowed it to continue, but like any good ref he was looking in the fighters eyes and saw a man hurt and called off the fight... which is what he should have done... lets say there was two extra seconds in that fight and steele looked at the light and said okay box... Chavez nails Taylor with one more hard shot and probably ends his career then and there... Right call by Steele, wrong opinion by fans.... Bottom line the ref is there to ensure the saftey of the fighter first and foremost. had he let it continue and Taylor got seriously hurt he would have gotten plenty of **** from fans the commisson and even Taylors corner....
