Wow. How amazing was he at the time of the first Chavez fight? He had the hand speed of someone like Mayweather, yet he stood inside and traded all night long with Chavez. I just watched it in it's entirety on YouTube. I recommend doing the same if you haven't watched it before (I hadn't seen it in it's entirety, just the Legendary Nights show about it - I was only 5 years old at the time).
I think you're right. I guess I was looking for someone active with great handspeed to compare him to. Moreso, it was awesome to see a guy with that handspeed not pot-shotting (and I am a Floyd fan) but right in there against a brutal puncher for 12 rounds.
that's the problem with those philly fighters, they try too hard prove how tough they are and ultimately end-up shotting themselves in the foot
I guess so, but he fought like a fighter and not a businessman, which is commendable. Stupid, also, but he wanted to win the fight.
Obviously. He was in rough shape, as the doctor said after the fight - he had a facial fracture, was urinating pure blood and has taken a tremendous beating. He can't even speak clearly nowadays.
Well taylor's 2nd biggest career win came after the chavez fight, against a solid fighter like aaron davis. So, no he wasn't a shot fighter.
Never said he was shot, just asked if he was never the same. Personally, I think he left a little bit in the ring that night, but obviously still was good enough to beat the undefeated Davis second fight back, then the unbeaten Luis Gabriel Garcia and a couple of fights later Glenwood Brown, climbing off the canvas twice for the victory.
Taylor was a great talent, but he fought the stupidest fight of all time against Chavez...with all that speed he chose to slug with Julio Cesar Chavez of all fighters...and people try to knock PBF for the way he fights, but PBF is going to retire from boxing a very wealthy man with his brain intact...
one of these days the guys in philly are going have to realize that their 'gym wars' prove nothing and only serve to diminish talent
Yeah, If Taylor fought a PBF-style fight against Chavez he would have won a decision and would not have taken nearly the punishment. Taylor was too brave for his own good.
