Taylor-Davis may be the two fastest fighter put against each other. I think Davis had the quickest hands of any fighter
At his best,Hatton beats both Mcgirt and Taylor at 140lbs.McGirt is too wieght drained, and Taylor likes to stand and brawl, but doesn't have enough power to keep hatton off of him.Hatton would maul, hammer the body, and tie up arms while wearing these guys down. Also,Hatton has very fast feet and is very strong at that wieght. That being said ,all three of these tremendous fighters comfortably occupy that space between very good and all time great. On the other hand,Floyd would walk these guys down and Manny would flatten them both.Of coarse, they are true all time greats.
Taylor needed Smoger or a ref like this vs Chavez [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCkf5wLta6Q&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
The 2nd best jww of all time. Taylor would **** hatton, KT, Pac and any other so called 140 pound champ.
He's by no means an "ATG". Quite overrated by the casual fan, I'd say. Not much of a thinking fighter, not much of a technician, either. Just blessed with extreme fast-twitch muscle fibers. Great handspeed, but also a bit of an arm-puncher without a lot of power. He relied on overwhelming his opponents with the speed and volume of his barrages. Not a whole lot of finesse to his game. Still, his physical assets and warrior's spirit would allow him to trouble most of the best fighters of his division, and possibly spring some upsets. He'd take some beatings, though, too. The punchers especially.
Taylor was an excellent fighter, but vulnerable. In my opinion,Pacquiao definately beats him at either 140 or 147lbs,and badly, about like pacquiao vs cotto.Mayweather is too slick, and would exploit taylors defense while walking him down:about like Floyd and mosely, and Hatton and taylor would be a case of who's having the better night;maybe like hatton and collazo, but without Hatton getting hurt in the 12th round.I used to watch taylor in his day,but thats what i think of him.
You could make a legit case for Taylor to be the third or second greatest light-welterweight of all time though to be fair.
Show me your top 5 light-welterweights of all time and I will make a case why Taylor should be at number two or three? Third is probably the best place to rank him if your basing it entirely on resume:good
