Definitely. The best not quite elite fighter at 155 The gatekeeper to show you are a top dog. Dunham could go into the Sherk rematch.
KenFlo was my immediate thought the guy is fighting in June with no opponet named and obviously Guillard suffered no damaged last night unless he hurt his hands. Great fight between those 2 and although Guillard looked incredible last night Kenny is a different animal. His movement, kicks, defense and ability to take a punch make him a tough matchup and hes also outstanding on the ground. For Dunham my pick would be a bout with Yves Edwards.
I think Guillard is a fight or two away from being ready for Kenny Florian. I would like to see Guillard vs Danzig. I don't know that Edwards would be a good choice for Dunham's next performance. Edwards has an advantage over Dunham is speed, is more explosive, and would be a threat to fight a similar fight as Guillard.
Good points about Yves Edwards it might be fair to give Dunham a different style matchup to rebuild his confidence and get him moving back to the top. I dont like the Danzig matchup although hes a talented fighter he has lost so many times he is no where near the top 10 UFC Lightweights and I think thats who Guillard needs to be fighting. Stephens was a big win and Dunham was an even bigger win now its time for a even tougher fight like a KenFlo. Sean Sherk would be another good fight especially if Sherk fights an intelligent fight like he did in round 1 vs Dunham goes for those takedowns and looks for elbows.
I became a student of boxing over 30 years ago. Boxers are brought along a lot slower than mma fighters. I think this makes me a little conservative in the pace at which mma fighters are brought along. I'd rather see him fight a couple fighters, that are border line top-10, before he steps up to face the elite class. Like I said, I may be playing a little conservative here. Guillard does have close to 40 fights(60 according to Rogan and Goldberg), and may be ready to jump right in.
The way boxers are usually brought along is a joke and can be more detrimental to them technically but beneficial to their pomoters financially. The only exception is that they are trying to master a trade rather than become a jack of all trades, which allows for quicker success in MMA.
I agree with you Guillard looked great , his TD defence looked solid (his wrestling background coming to the fore) and his striking looked on another level , as Joe Rogan pointed out fighters with that sort of talent do not fully peice together there games unless they go and train in camps such as Jackson's , ATT and so on ............... and now we maybe seeing the re birth of Guillard . He is a powerfull powerfull athlete and he looks so confident at the moment . Florian is a perfect choice for him , maybe not for Kenny but definatley for Guillard , id love to see this fight and id love to see how Florian deals with Guillard as well , would love to see this fight made .
Guillard Florian is a perfect match up right now .............. people forget Guillard is more experienced than Florian in terms of actual fights , you cannot right off a performance like Guillard's against Dunham as a one off , he had the beating of the highly rated Dunham in every single department and his time in camp Jackson is bringing out what we all knew Guillard possesed !!!! it was just a matter of filling the holes in his game , and making that transition into a disciplined mixed martial artist ............ Edwards is a poor mans Guillard in terms of his stand up but has a solid ground game , a talented fighter , ahead of his time during his day and clearly still has a lot to offer , i think him and Dunham is not actually a bad shout to be fair . But Florian Guillard has to happen , and id like to see it next up for both men
A very good win, as always we know that his hand are killers. Have to agree with Florian vs Guillard. Ke-Flow needs a big win, and this fight should test Guillard on what he dose on his back. But you know if Ken-Flow wins....Old Joe will scream..."HE'S BACK!"
