Traditionally the first round is a feeling out round, even in Great fights the first round can be a quite scouting round to get a feel for what the opponents got, on other occasions scripts can get torn up pretty quickly and someone hits the deck, so what were the most memorable 1st rounds where NO knockdowns occurred ? A few that stick in my mind...

Hagler Vs Hearns - of course will probably remain the Benchmark for action right off the bat
perhaps not by Hearn's pre-conceived plan, but he responded to aggression presented to him with extreme and exciting prejudice, with those bombs flying its a wonder neither touched down.

Frazier Vs Quarry 1st - Perhaps this should in fact be the Benchmark, it was in duration a Double Dose of Hagler Vs Hearns, Frazier came out Smoldering and Quarry met him ring centre, and it was the Irishman who was Smoking, Digging hooks into Joe, with hefty right hands for good measure, if only he had fought Ellis with this Gung-ho commitment, Joe was shaken, but came back, and gradually stoked his furnace and got on top..But Jerry made like a demon in an asbestos suit for awhile...Magnificent

Ali Vs Quarry 1st - We didn't really know what type of Ali we were going to see, he was Older, coming off a 3 plus year layoff, and rumors were rife that he was stuck to the ropes in sparring, and he was up against a younger hard hitting No 1 contender who had just wrecked another undefeated Heavy in Big Mac Foster, at the sound of the first bell the sporting world held its breath, despite the subsequent inconclusive cuts ending, Ali was a revelation in that first round, Headlines such as "Black Prince Back" heralded that exciting times awaited on the Journey to Mr Frazier and beyond, One scribe described Ali as "Dancing on the sands of Time..."

Any other No Knockdown First Rounds the stick in the Memory...?

Brewster vs Cliff Etienne had both men staggered on big punches

    Vargas/Trinidad .

Vargas was quicky knocked down 2x , and everyone (including Tito) thought it was all over .

    BIG MISTAKE .

Despite losing , Vargas got up ,came back and gave Trinidad a WAR .

Broner getting his ass beat for the whole of round 1, was a sign of things to come in round 2.

KO KIDD ftw! I'd completely forgotten about Brewster and Etienne. That first round was insanity!

Leon Spinks had a crazy first round with Alfredo Evangelista.

Sithchachwal and Monshipur first round was off the wall too.

The first round of Marquez-Vasquez was a sizzler that gave a portent to the next twenty four to follow.

Provodnikov vs Bradley was a great 1st round without any official knockdowns even though it was a crime one wasn't called.

    Hatton vs Mayweather.

Mayweather went back to his corner with a really worried look on his face , but Cortez made it easy later on.

Of more recent vintage, Thurman vs Soto Karass had a pretty wild first round in which both men were hurt at some point during that three minute period.

I don't want to repeat what the TS already stated, but that Hagler-Hearns first round was one of the most intense 'things' I've ever witnessed.

I remember vividly the first time I watched it, I felt like I already had watched a whole 12 round fight when it ended. No word of a lie. Crazy.
