Which fight was that again?
Thats my fav too Larry shut floyd's yap didnt he
There was a moment during one of Larry Merchant's ramblings where he started talking about encountering a rabbit "when the rabbit has the gun." It was part of a broader, nonsensical stream of consciousness, but for the life of me, I can't remember the fight. Nevertheless, it's stuck with me. Larry's ramblings were part of the sport's charm. Fights would have been a lot poorer without them.
His epitaph for Toney-Rahman and possibly the Klitschko-Kirk Johnson (briefly typed "Kirk Douglas," heh) fight -- "The whale harpooned" -- was kind of dickish, but it was also memorable.
Quite right my friend, my apologies, it has been a while since I last watched it.
I always thought Bob Sheridan's call of Holyfield v Tyson I is vastly overlooked. I could be wrong but I think us international viewers got that version. The end part of the fight is goosebumps material...
"It's all over! We have a new Heavyweight champion of the world! Can you believe it?! Do you believe it?! If Buster Douglas was the upset of the century, well this is something bigger". I'm running off memory here, happy to be corrected.
I remember this one well!
The Rumble in the Jungle.
"You can stop it anytime Frank"
Jim Lampley round 9 of Ward Gatti 1
“THE RIGHT GOT EM!!!! THE DEVASTATING RIGHT!!!!! AND SUDDENLY THIS FIGHT HAS INTO A DIFFERENT FIGHT! Earnie Shavers at age 35 or what ever!” - Cosell after Shavers landed a nuclear torpedo on Larry Holmes in their second meeting.
George Foreman: "Where's the FIE-yah!"
I think it was Bowe-Gonzalez, not sure.
"I want who necks" Sam Peter
"I didn't understand the answer" Jim Lampley
I think you can also hear Foreman saving Larry Merchant (or Lampley; don't remember) from one of Bowe's groupies during the Fan Man riot with something like, "You don't want to do that, son."
And Lampley was concerned for his 16 year old daughter who was out there on the floor, "somewhere".
Emmanuel Steward, Berto vs Ortiz I, "oh my GAAAWWWWWDD!!!"
Algieri trainer, Pacquiao vs Algieri, "Were right where we wanna be. I'm gonna let him out the cage..."
Whenever Foreman pulls rank on Lampley it always gets me. As someone who hates Lampley it’s great to hear him squirm and try and avoid engaging with George whenever he says something a bit dopey aha.
