Long-time lurker; finally decided to set up an account. Very impressed with the members' depth of knowledge of 80s and 90s boxing, time periods near and dear to my heart.

I attended the Klitschko-Jennings fight at MSG last month and it rekindled my sense of nostalgia. Lately, I've been watching a lot of heavyweight fights from the 80s and 90s. For numerous reasons, I stopped actively following the heavyweight division in the early part of the century (the only fights I watched were Lewis-Tyson and Lewis-Klitschko). Since I missed an entire decade of fights, I would love to hear some ideas about what to watch.

What are your picks for the most memorable heavyweight fights of the 2000s?

    All best,
    Jimmy

    Lewis-Klitschko is the most discussed.

The best HW fight of the 21st century was Liakhovich-Brewster.

Lewis-Tyson was memorable, although far from a great or close fight, it was the biggest HW fight in terms of money and mainstream attention this century.

Lewis's fights with Rahman were also memorable, as I think both were spectacular KOs.

Monte Barrett-Owen Beck was a good, underrated HW fight. Same with Maskaev-Rahman 2.

Tough act to follow after the action-packed 90s, it seems.

My opinion is you get good action when the tale of the tapes and skills are close to even.

Your opinion that they don't throw that much is not correct. Many heavyweight throw a lot of punches. And some can take it well.

Rhaman vs Maskaev 2 was excellent.

    Liakhovich vs Brewster was excellent.

not a classic fight by any stretch of the imagination, but fury cunningham was very memorable, from the quickly became ironic press conference right through to the post fight karaoke.

I saw an old interview where Emmanuel Steward was getting ready for one of Wlad's defenses, and Emmanuel said this time period was the weakest for heavyweights in recent memory.

Some of the replies in this thread seem to support his position.
