Holyfield fought Mercer in 1995, or are you talking about someone else?

Nice sarcasm there. But I think you know what I meant: Norris pitched a shutout in the rematch.

Against a past prime Welterweight everyone expected him to KO the first time. Everyone already knew Brown could be outboxed comprehensively. The smaller Buddy McGirt proved that against a prime version several years earlier. Not sure how it was embarrassing for him when most of the past prime Welterweights Norris buttered his bread with couldn’t last the distance.

Brown KO'd Norris quite easily the first time. Losing the rematch by that large margin would embarrass anyone who was so successful the first go around. Come on man, that would be embarrassing for ANYONE on planet earth.

On the contrary, it would be seen as an impressive accomplishment if the first fight didn’t happen. Norris made his name feasting on smaller fighters, shot fighters, and especially smaller shot fighters. Leonard, Curry, Taylor, Blocker, Mugabi, etc. Easiest way to fill your record with impressive wins over big names. Brown was just another cherry pick in the exact same vein, but he was a legit hard man with power. That was enough. He exposed Terry’s skills, power, and especially his egg shell chin.

The fact that the rematch was probably Terrible Terry’s greatest win speaks volumes to the level of fighter he really was. You’d be hard pressed to find a bigger mirage in modern American boxing.

Yet, 50 years from now, I’m sure the young students of the game will be praising Norris’ stacked resume before they do their due diligence. If only he’d gotten the Whitaker and Chavez fights he was so desperately seeking on top of those.

Marlon Starling turning Lloyd Honeyghan from a swarmer into a runner over the course of their fight and still knocking him out.

But the first fight did happen. No need to go in depth on T____'s career, because you're speaking to the choir. Knocking someone out in 4 rounds and then getting whitewashed in the rematch is quite embarrassing, no matter how you spin it.

A similar event would be Lewis-Rahman I & II. Maybe I should've used that example instead of a fight involving T____ N_____. I had no idea you'd have some type of MK Ultra meltdown at the mere mention of, dare I say his name...

We'll agree to disagree on Toney - Jones then.

Meltdown? I haven’t talked **** about Norris in years. Forgot how satisfying it could be.

I'll tell you not one .. Foreman losing to Young .. not only was it a terrible stylish matchup for Foreman but George went into the fight totally aware of who and what Jimmy Young was .. Foreman was a commentator for Young's defeat of Lyle where Jimmy displayed all of his skills ... how team Foreman took a fight again Young in a hot climate has to be one of the dumbest matchmaking selections imaginable ..

I respect your opinion, glad you respect mine. Sadly, users from other websites turn nasty whenever anyone has a difference of opinion. Take care.

No disrespect meant to either greats but Feb 11 1990, Mike Tyson vs James Buster Douglas, and Muhammad Ali vs Leon Spinks, Feb 15 1978.
