Rio Olympics 2016 Heavyweight Boxing Final. One of the worst boxing decisions in Olympic history. Russians Evgeny Tishchenko was awarded the decision and Gold Medal over Kazakhstans Vasily Levit. Yet it was clear to a worldwide audience that Levit was the worthy winner and victim of this Robbery!.. Memories of the Seoul 1988 Heavyweight Final between Rid**** Bowe vs Lennox Lewis, were Bowe was warned over 16 times in the opening round by the referee, who prematurely stopped the bout in Lewis favour in a politically motivated move early in round 2 which robbed the USA Bowe of any chance of glory. Rid**** Bowe was not the only USA fighter to be robbed of glory in Seoul. Roy Jones Jr. won every second of his final bout, only to be denied of Gold.
Roy Jones Jr was a definite robbery. I guess. I only have the clip of the standing 8/stoppage for Bowe-Lewis, and then the wbc belt trashing in what appeared to be a way to avoid Lewis. I was unaware of any potential controversy. Interested to hear what others have to say. Sent from my NS-P10A6100 using Tapatalk
Yeah, it was a ridiculous stoppage. Lennox landed a couple of good shots and the ref stepped in. It could have easily gone on.
I don't follow all the sports in the Olympics . Mostly I watch the athletics and the boxing, sometimes some weightlifting, occasionally swimming, rowing, gymnastics, diving, other random stuff ..... so I'm not expert, but ..... boxing seems to be ridiculously controversial and corrupt. More than any other sport in the olympics I've noticed. There seems to be incredible levels of nation-bias or just plain poor officiating. I've been watching the Olympics since 1980, and '84, just a kid. Since 1988 I've been grown enough to recognize the corruption. It was famously bad in 1988 and has been bad every time since. Maybe it's because I just don't understand the judging and rulings in things like diving and gymnastics, or haven't seen enough of it. I don't know, but Olympic boxing stinks as bad as the professional game.
