I went with family to New York on holiday recently and with one of my hopes being to sample a local boxing gym, my Dad and I paid a visit to the Mendez Boxing Gym. I can't remember the exact address, but I just wanted to give the gym a "shout-out" on here, they were really welcoming and more than happy for me to have a workout there and let me take some pictures around the place. I managed to meet Lonnie Bradley, former WBO middleweight champion. I wasn't aware of him at first as he was a bit before my time, but he was happy letting me get my picture taken with him before he sparred. The place had a buzz about it, impressive for a Sunday, and I really enjoyed the few hours I spent in their company. Without trying to make this sound like some kind of crap sales-pitch, if your in the area at any time and have an interest in training I'd give it a visit. Many thanks to Sebastian and Ian for their hospitality, Lonnie Bradley for being a down to earth champ and all the others there for not looking down on a tourist!
