I think back to some of the greats, Alexis Arquello, Sonny Liston, Mike Tyson and a not so great, Tony Ayalla. Now Tyson Fury. I can think of dozens who were obviously suffering from some type of mental illness. Some severe and some not. Some were just odd and some had totally lost themselve. The odd ones, Emanuel Augustus, Leon Spinks, Victor Ortiz, Johnny Tapia. There have been so many.
Exactly look at Edwin valero To say boxing causes mental illness would be a huge overstatement Most boxers come from working class or very low socio economic standings . they are generally very tough people and as mentioned above slightly crazy, when boxers actually say things like ' i like getting punched' some of them arent joking, i mean it may sound crazy but the thrill of being in a fight and getting punched and punching back is a huge high for from people but to enjoy something like that you have to be a little bit mental. That usually separates the guys who have the talent from the guys who have the talent but make something of themselves in boxing In comparison soccer player rs generally come from working class backgrounds too and many of them are quiet crazy and go broke. In comparison to rugby where most guys never get into trouble of the field and are very well off later into life despite not making a 100/1 of the money
A lot of boxers come from hard backgrounds so it's not surprising that would manifest itself as mental illness later in life.
Andre Ward and Matthew Macklin are the only normal ones. The others are weird. I can barely think of any mentally normal boxers. I think the overwhelming majority were complete twats growing up, too.
Id add Andy Lee, Carl frampton too that. Ward comes off as a right self righteous ***** to me. Mikey Garcia seems OK, most of the eastern European lads too and Tim Bradley to an extent
Tim Bradley had severe anger problems when he was a kid, and we don't really see enough of him but he seems alright. I don't know enough about Andy Lee or Frampton (their personalities). Mikey is a little too quiet and strange for me.
Why defend Fury and his coked up nonsense, but still take a dump on Oscar for his drug problems? I always have to point out the inconsistences by you bias guys with your fake sincerity. Maybe a clue that Fury was high was maybe when he was talking about other boxers "Johnson's" and how big they are. How about when he was showing up to pressers dressed as batman? This content is protected I like a little showmanship but c'mon, he was high as rick James for that stunt. Now you guys have a concern for Fury's mental well being but a few years ago you were tearing down De La Hoya like a old Vanilla Ice poster and calling him coke heads and ****. This content is protected
He seems fairly level headed and good now though, tbh most kids have some class of anger issues lmfao Andy Lee is a complete gentleman and very level headed, he is a traveller but is well educated well spoken and settled Frampton seems like a very normal guy tbh
To be fair, we can't single out Boxing for mental illness sportsmen/women. There are other sports out there that has disturbed athletes. Heck, mental people are all over the place regardless of being an athlete or punk or even professionals.
He defiantly does he is completely delusional, maybe he is just really really stupid but mentally sound but id say their is defiantly something wrong with him
Being punched in the head since you're a kid and having your brain rattled around probably isnt conducive to mental stability
