Mental Strength: Who impressed you the most?

Mickey Walker

 

Marciano and Ali.

 

Add Saad Muhammad Frazier and Gotti

 

Evander holyfield and Jack Johnson.

 

Greb, Robinson, Whitaker, Monzon, Chavez, Hopkins… Vander and Johnson are great calls, too.

 

Ali, Louis, Ross, Hopkins, Foreman, Basilio and Hagler just to name a few.

 

Ali impressed me the most.

chavez' never say die attitude won him the taylor fight
Marciano was undeterrable
I thought Riddick bowe showed tremendous heart vs golota 2
Roberto duran handling the superfight pressure so much better than sugar ray leonard first time around

 

Carlos Monzon.

 

Nigel Benn's mental strength impressed me very much vs McClellan.

 

Obviously Muhammad Ali comes to mind but some other guys I thought of for various different reasons...

Evander Holyfield- Had an iron will in the ring, never gave up.

Riddick Bowe- This may surprise a lot of people but Bowe exhibited great mental strength in the ring. He also stayed calm therefor never becoming tired even though not always being in the best of shape. This mental strength willed him through wars with Holyfield, allowed him to whether the storm and beat Herbie Hide and mental strength was the deciding factor in who got the W in both his fights with Golota.

Rocky Marciano- Extremely determined, as a matter fact determination was probably his biggest asset and made up for skills that he lacked.

Joe Frazier- To keep the pace he did and with stand the punishment he had to withstand to win some of his fights you gotta be mentally strong as hell.

George Foreman- In his later days he was very mentally strong in the ring. Always composed allowed him to never become tired and always have a clear head, his mental strength is what ultimately lead him to winning his second world title.

Larry Holmes- In his prime he just refused to be beaten, getting of the canvas and pulling out tough fights in the later rounds. He had a confidence about him in his day that was similar to Ali.

Sugar Ray Leonard- Again a guy who had that confidence and determination in the ring with an outstanding skill set which led him to be great.

 

Barney Ross

Never knocked out in his career and in the Armstrong fight he showed not only immense physical courage but an apparent bottomless well of mental strength to help him hear the final bell when his own corner wanted to pull him out

 

Jack Kid Berg

 

Ali, Holyfield, Basilio
