It depends on what you mean by 'make it'. Was it proof that he would never become undisputed champion, going on to break Joe Louis' title defense record? Yes I guess, but there was already considerable proof of this. But this was the fight that unscored all the weakness' that would hound him for the rest of his career.

What I mean by make it??..Is was Tommy gonna stick around to possibly fight Holy, most likely have to fight Lewis and maybe even Tyson...But what happened in his fights with Mercer and Foreman I think proved he just didnt have it to be a top 5 contender, So he cut his losses and got the F outa dodge..HIV my ass!!!:hi:

I thought Morrison did well in his career. He was not a Tyson or Holmes caliber fighter, but he was good. And he excelled further than Mercer ever did with his win over Foreman.

Morrison was beating Mercer, he got caught, like he did in most of his losses. He didnt take shots well and faded after a few rounds. Him and his trainer made a big deal about his stamina problems claiming it was mental, but Tommy was an offensive fighter, who probably didnt train in the gym like he fought in his fights so thats probably why he faded.
He fought a pretty disciplined fight against Foreman, but that was more because of Foreman's lack of speed which allowed Tommy to pace himself and move the way he did.

Morrison looked terrific for the first three or four rounds ... he was fast, punching hard and in combinations ... at times the rock chinned Mercer looked a bit worried and bewildered ... however when he was tagged and suffered such a brutal KO it became evident that he did not have the chin to survive at the highest level ..

tough fights. I don't see Foreman signing to fight Mercer. Mercer had a good chin and could punch, yet I see Foreman winning a hard decision.. Holmes vs. Morrison? I see Morrison maybe getting a knockout if he fights the old Holmes. Morrison had more power than Mercer and I think quicker hands.

Thats why I brought up the fact that he lost most of his biggest fights.
