IM thinking that alot of people have let the ray walloping of tim CONFUSE the living crap out of them

personally i would BET a good chuck o change that it was mercer's victory over sylvia that SECRETLY gave toney the EXTRA belief he could transition so well into MMA

YES itz possible it had NOTHING to do with his decision HOWEVER i would bet that it DID weigh into his decision as toneys the kinda guy that would be stupid enough to say, "mercer SHYTE im way better than mercer!"

ive alwayz been a big mercer fan. personally i think he was under-rated as a all time great heavy however i feel that also was mostly to do with the fact that he would train hard for one fight and then show up for another in crap shape. in addition ray had a lil partying problem during his best years witch didnt help matters.

plus the guy started BOXING LATE for the love of god. all in all i would rank mercer in his prime as one of the toughest dudez ever to have stepped into a ring of any kind

that said mercer's win over slyvia gave all the idiotz the idea that a great boxer would have a great chance of catching a MMA fighter with a knock out shot BEFORE the MMA fighter could take the boxer to the ground etc

this simply is not the case and has never been the case and everybody that paid attention to both sports would have already known this long before mercer fought sylvia

herez my take on the ray vs tim fight,,,,,

tim did not expect ray to give him any REAL trouble as he had prejudged ray as NOT in his LEAGUE and came walking out of his corner thinking he was about to get it on with a 49 year old fat out of shape dude witch was the TRUTH

tim was arrogent enough to think that ray for some reason didnt have DYNAMITE in his FISTz

ray has ALWAYz been a BIG TIME PUNCHER and STARCHED tim with his first shot in about 10 secondz

it wouldnt surprise me if ray would win alot of MMA fightz if guyz wanted to stand and trade punches with him even at his age now. however it would surprise me if there were too many out there still stupid enough to try

ray is the kind of guy that you dont punch in the face unless you have a brick in your hand

reminds me of this guy on here a while back i remember going on about vlad klit being able to beat any MMA heavyweight fighter using the logic that nobody could get to him before vlad layed them out

this kind of logic i find freakin fookered right the hell up

first of all i think vlad is currently the best boxer overall in the world eventhough i dont think he is unbeatable. second of all i think even if a guy like JDS fought vlad in a MMA fight and intentionally choose to only trade punches with VLAD i would bet LARGE that vlad would destroy JDS. third anyone that would attempt to TRADE punches with vlad in MMA event would be in for a bad night.

lastly any top guy that FEARED trading punches with vlad and went into the fight intent on bum rushing vladdy and tying up his arms with those wee gloves that you can actually GRAB hold of things with would probably have a vlad shot whistle across their headz with a grazing blow while they dumped his arse to the matt and proceeded to do something like randy did to toney last nite

that doesnt mean that boxing is shyte and MMA is great

it meanz when someone knows what there doing and bumrushes you itz a extremely low chance that even the BEST punchers in the world will be able to land a CLEAN EFFECTIVE SHOT before the FIGHTERz come together and it is even HARDER to land a SHOT once someone is holding you trying to tie you up or dump you on your arse. it meanz that in boxing when one fighter ties another up the REF stops the ACTION and BREAKz the fighters apart. ever put on boxing gloves and try to wrestle with someone? its not easy right ? well even with boxing gloves its not to hard to tie a really good boxer up if thats all your trying to do. itz so easy to do the ref will call a break or even deduct a point if you do it too much and the reason for that is even with boxing gloves its still easier to tie a guy up then it is to land a clean shot and that is EXACTLY why itz against the RULEz in BOXING and NOT ALLOWED and therefore why BOXING and MMA are simalar but radically different at the same time.

    REPEAT AFTER ME EVERYONE

we already know what FIGHTING STYLEz transition best into MMA with the most overall success and since the begining boxing hasnt been one of them and that has nothing to do with boxing being INFERIOR in anyway shape or form to MMA.

itz because your not ALLOWED to ****ING HOLD in BOXING because then the BOXERz cant THROW their punches and it becomes a grappling match

I think Toney just wanted a payday. Apparently he got like 750K

I mean he said he trained like crazy but at the end of the day he came in at a career high weight.

That fight was pretty much meaningless.

That guy wanted to punch with Mercer because it was changed from boxing to MMA match, most likely.

No it was not meaningless. It showed once again that a MMA fighter will almost always beat a pure boxer. MMA fighters are have a lot more skills.

Damn right. I still am waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more of a boxing fan, but it is a limited form of combat.

I say that because it is a stone cold fact: a thing many are uncomfy with here.

By saying that it is gay it would seem.

But what does it say about a boxer if he is beaten by a ***? Makes him the ***.

It is like Cartman sucking a dick to make someone look gay.

In boxing you use your fists. That is the meat of it.

It was meaningless because Toney didn't even get in shape. So all it showed was an MMA fighter who beat a shot boxer who was just in it for the payday.

    Big deal.

If Toney had come in below 220 like he did his last fight, then I would say he took it seriously. But a career high weight? comon man.

as long as mma fighters are arrogant and stupid enough...Mercer (or any boxer who'll give mma a try)...will always manage to grab a win here and there. Or they can play it safe....And instantly go for a takedown.

The only opponents who can put up a fight in the standing department against boxers are probably ex-kickboxers. (since they're very good at keeping their distance and using their kicks...and their knees during the clinch)...

but "mma strikers"... should forget about it , and just follow a safe gameplan.
