There are no downsides to this fight. If Rios wins he's a star, if Pacquiao wins surely it'll be impressive raising his stock.

    Should be a tremendous fight.

Count me in as one of the few that wants to see the Bradley rematch.
HBO is always guilty of hyping up fighters. Rios is tailor made for Manny. The only thing that fight would give fans is renewed faith in Pac and 2-3 more years of not fighting Mayweather.

Another tailor made opponent for Pac.

    Pac is a fraud man.

    Mayweather or nothing.

Well I would disagree with him but people forget Merchant was pushing for Mosley-DLH back in the day along with DLH-Pacquiao and he got it right on both fights. That makes me wonder what he sees that we dont.

How would beating Rios raise Pacs stock? :huh

Margarito was 10x's the danger that Rios is, granted, Pac isnt quite as good (imo) as he was in that fight but regardless....

It would be a complete massacre.

This **** is is exactly why boxing fans continue to get ripped off from managers and promoters, because the majority of boxing fans are suckers. Rios comes off a complete robbery, has one fight at 140 and beats the 5th ranked guy and now deserves a shot at the #1 welterweight? **** is as bogus as it gets and fans are just eating it up :patsch

The idea of Pac fighting the number 5 jr welter, while not fighting its number 1, is being applauded...

The fact is, if Pac is going to fight a 140lber, it should be the winner of Garcia/Morales, or Lucas Matthysse.

    Now....

    Rios vs Garcia
    Rios vs Matthysse
    Rios vs JMM

All fights would be awesome and if Rios fought one of them and won, then he would have a clear shot at Pac based on that.

But at this point, Rios shouldnt just not be the first choice, he shouldnt even be second or third.

Bradley - The guy who has his belt
Matthysse - The number 1 ranked jr welter
Garcia - The champion of jr welter

Boxing fans supporting this fight at the expense of guys who deserve it more is crazy.

Yep, what Merchant is saying is that Pac needs someone hand picked for him to make him look like he did against Hatton.

Pac needs to rematch Bradley. :deal

Yep, Manny has elite boxers he has to face. Rios is too green. However, I would love to see Rios fight Khan and Marquez. If Maidana could come back down to 140 that's the one I'd love to see.

If it's not Floyd then I will avoid any pay per view fights by either fighter.(Mayweather or Pacquiao) The fight will be telecast the week after for free, so why spend $60 for a fight you really don't want to see?

This would be an all action fight and would definitely sell. I guarantee it would sell a shitload more PPVs than Pacquiao-Bradley, so from a business standpoint it makes perfect sense. I'm not interested in paying to see Pacquiao take on yet another low risk, high reward opponent though. I'd much rather pay to see a fight that I'm NOT 99% certain who the winner will be before they even step in the ring. I'm sure there at least a million dipshits out there who will pay to see this farce though, so fair play to Manny and his fat jew uncle... I guess.

Always puzzles me when people criticize Manny for fighting offensive fighters. They account for an overwhelming majority of fighters, have a variety of styles between them, and Manny just beat Bradley in the eyes of anyone that can score a fight. And he's fighting Marquez next, who he just lost to. I want to see the Floyd fight as much as anyone but clearly neither party is interested.

For me the problem with this fight isn't that he's merely taking on an offensive fighter but the fact that he's taking on one who's utterly undistinguished at Pacquiao's weight, who has one decent win in the division below, and who was just made to look silly mere months ago. Merchant bitched and moaned about talk of Mayweather-Guerrero, but this would be even worse than that fight and he's excusing it because of Rios' style alone. That should never be one's sole qualification for a fight with someone at the level of Pacquiao.
