Nail on the ****ing head. Merchant wants to see a good fight, Steward does too, but understands that sometimes a fighter can't win and be entertaining, and Lampley is a fan boy, but a decent one.

Exactly, not like what Merchant said was so out of line. I mean even if you disagree with him was it really that way off? No. Even Steward who was complementing Barker knew that he was limited and he was only in it because he shelled up.

Props to Barker for making it close but unfortunately and unlike Pav and PWill he had no plans to win. Just a plan to not look as bad.

    No guts no glory.

Merchant simply points out what a lot of nut-huggers here pretend not to know: that Sergio Martinez and Floyd Mayweather pick their opponents carefully, and avoid some of the best fighters in their own divisions.

A true nut-hugger would have said that Barker was a dangerous opponent, a top middleweight etc. But Larry doesn't let fighters get away with ducking.

When Martinez fights Pirog or Golovkin, be sure Merchant will give him credit. But we all know Martinez loves fighting B-level fighters, so those fights won't happen.

i hope he did...hiding behind your guard and doing better than expected does NOT make u a good fighter... Barker=no punch and speed.

Maybe it isn't that those who disagree with Merchant are nuthuggers.

Maybe it's that Merchant is simply an irrational hater, like you.

FFS, the guy openly admits that he roots and scores against low workrate/high accuracy styles. Nothing he says in this day and age can be taken the least bit seriously. He likes the Katsidis types and hates everyone else. **** him and **** you.

Notice, people, how this nut-hugger completely ignored my entire post and just attacked me personally.

My post was about Martinez ducking serious competition in his last 3 fights, preferring to fight bums for less money than he would make fighting a dangerous opponent. Now read this guy's response. It's thanks to mindless nut-huggers like this swarming ESB that we always get useless fights instead of real fights.

LArry Merchant is one of the few guys who doesn't give duckers a free pass when they fight B-level competition. When you idiots **** on him, then you also have to stop complaining when Vitali fights a shot Shannon Briggs, or Martinez fights Darren Barker, or Floyd fights a blown-up Marquez and pays him extra to let him fight over-limit.

Martinez and Mayweather have both cherry picked a bit in recent years. That has nothing to do with Merchant being an atrocious unprofessional blight on the sport's image in recent years.

I addressed you as a Merchant apologist and someone who's clearly obsessed with bad-mouthing two boxers he's had recent criticisms of (marking you as an obsessive hater) rather than being receptive to the valid complaints about his growing incoherence and penchant for sensationalistic bull****. Nothing personal. :hi:

I thought it was Merchant that gave Barker credit when it was Lederman or Steward that said Martinez wasn't doing enough or fighting the best he could have. Merchant basically said he'd rather give Barker the credit than to say Martinez wasn't doing something. If he said anything else more specifically doing the fight he was probably right. Barker was fighting like a man not trying to defend the championship, and Martinez like someone trying to win the championship.

    What? Stop babbling.

Merchant made no less than a dozen disparaging comments about Barker's tactics.

You admit that Floyd and Sergio are duckers, so you are clearly apologetic of ducking. That has EVERYTHING to do with what Merchant says. He only says negative things about duckers and the bums they fight. You say he bad-mouths people, but that's completely false. The only trash-talker here is you. Grow up and get a life, instead of hugging Sergio's balls. He already has a girlfriend. Tell him to fight Pirog next time he calls you for a blow job.

The 'WHOLE FIGHT' as you put it, is a terrible exaggeration. That back and forth with Steward you talking about, wasn't even shitting on. It was more Merchant trying to get some clarity on what Steward meant by saying "Barker is fighting the perfect fight." And I agree, if he was fighting the perfect, fight, Barker would have been having more success.

I know you floyd fans hate Arum, Merch, Pac, and a whole slew of others because floyd hates em, but if you have to exaggerate your point, then there really isn't a point. Then again, maybe we have different ideas of what's "shitting" on. I know it seems to be ANYTHING not positive said about Floyd is considered, so maybe you hold that criteria there as well. I don't know.

    How am I apologetic? :huh

Martinez and Mayweather should take on more challenging opposition, IMO. Their selections are extremely dissatisfying. I was one of the first and most vocal in calling Mayweather-Ortiz a stupid mismatch, and said the exact same thing about Martinez-Barker (although unlike Ortiz, Barker actually went a ways toward proving me wrong by at least making it competitive and not losing every round). Mayweather should just say the hell with it and fight Pacquiao, test or no. Martinez should fight Pirog.

In what way am I an apologist or nut-hugger for either one, then?

Why are you so obsessed with those two boxers? Let's stop talking about them. Stay on track. ****, you're as senile as he is. We're not talking about Mayweather or Martinez. We're talking about how Merchant sucks now.

Merchant sucks now NOT because of his attitudes and opinions toward two specific boxers that you're obsessed with and consumed by hatred towards. He sucks now because of his attitudes and opinions IN GENERAL. He's a rambling, belly-aching, intentionally provocative and out-of-touch old ****-wit who's lost all perspective and feels entitled to use his position as free license to stir the pot like so many trolls on this very forum, except with a larger reach thanks to his national exposure (which HBO really needs to pull the plug on)

That's SOP in boxing these days. There's always at least one judge with an unjustifiably wide scorecard in favor of the house fighter.

Merchant criticizes what he appears to be too defensive of tactics constantly. He gave Barker credit for troubling Martinez but never felt he was doing enough to ever win the fight. Nothing wrong with that stance, in fact it's accurate.
