Rodríguez is keeping atop Gesta with suffocating pressure, working the body and then roping out straight fusillades upstairs. Gesta tries slipping punches but is only successful with it up to a point. Gesta boxing cute on the backfoot and seems to not really know what he's doing, able to make Rodríguez miss for a while but then inevitably getting trapped and worked over, and seeming reluctant to mix it up on the inside as has in the past been his nature. Gesta scoring a few right jabs on the backfoot, little else.

Rodríguez is crowding Gesta, nudging the right jab into his face, making him duck and clapping the sides when he can't get a piece of Gesta's lowered head, content to just get his touches wherever he can. Gesta is kept very quiet offensively, trying some big right hooks, but getting clipped with left uppercuts from Rodríguez charging inside.

Rodríguez is finding it difficult to cut his way inside now as Gesta has rediscovered his jab, placing it squarely on the face and then stepping wide around Rodríguez to reset. Gesta wings out some right hooks while dropping his face and backing up, collecting Rodríguez into a clinch as the Mexican storms the gates. Gesta is painting Rodríguez's face with the jab, cautiously remaining outside as he now has a cut over his brow leaking down into his right eye. Uppercut flurries by Rodríguez falling in, but Gesta swatting his gloves aside, countering with right hooks off the ropes.

Both of the Mexican underdogs tonight (José Santos Piedras González and now Juan Antonio Rodríguez Mozo) entered with 7 losses but neither has acted like they were here to be "fed" to anyone.
