González is walking into light double & triple jabs, snatching Avila into headlocks where he can, or simply pulling him by the waist into a tango at ring center. Avila desperately pumping the jab to avoid the strength-sapping clinches and painful body digs of González. Avila mostly doing a decent job of it, but showing few answers when González does leap in and cling to him, initiating some rough inside exchanges which Avila just waits out until González exhausts himself and flops against him, prompting the ref to split them.

Round 5

González is winging big wide rights up top, getting caught on the deflecting left arm of Avila, swung laterally for that defensive purpose while reeling in from the jab. González is hopping in and piling on shots from the spleen to lower throat of Avila. More overhand rights from González starting to nick the left cheek of Avila, catching him as he's stepping out behind the jab, his feet a bit slower now. González keeps the pressure on and scores a few left hooks downstairs. Avila doing little but jab and circle away, with a greater sense of urgency now.

Round 6

González is starting to fake Avila out with the jab elevated up from a crouch, making Avila dip with a sideways bend - right where González has presciently already begun delivering a shoveling right hand. Avila getting surprised by a few of González's heavy ponderous shots, continuously taking his bait with the diversionary jab. Avila not thinking very clearly on his feet, seeming tired and uncomfortable. Avila just skipping away, no longer able to shrug off González's octopus attacks. González swallowing him up and battering the body. HUGE line drive right hand by González after faking a jab and making Avila flinch straight backward. Another right by González, causing Avila to clinch. Rabbit punch by González at the bell.

So do we chalk this up to rust or was this always Tino's level?

González is a very good journeyman tbf, competitive with every prospect he lost to except Ruben Villa IV.

 

Round 7

González continues making Avila very uncomfortable, ducking in and bucking against him, ramming his shoulder into Avila's diaphragm, slapping at his sides with both hands, and cracking home with some cannonball rights on the button. Avila has no space to get any offense going, and his legs are too weary to really employ any defensive movement. All he can do is grapple ineffectually. González keeps roughhousing and then flinging Avila into the ropes, catching him on the bounce-back with grazing rights on the head. The jab of Avila has all but vanished.

Tino gonna be lucky to escape with a draw here if he can avoid getting knocked down.

edit: the ref comes over to visit Avila on his stool and warns the corner that he will take a point in the final round if there's more excessive holding w/o punching.

Round 8

González is meeting Avila head on as the American tries asserting himself in the center of the ring with a pair of consecutive hooks. González is jabbing high, and hoping to ambush his quarry with the big looping right as he managed in the middle rounds. González missing but never stops pressuring and swinging. Avila finally starts to connect with the counter jab again, finding his footing. Improved balance now from Avila, sidestepping González and countering. They sloppily tie up and both miss shots behind each other's backs until the bell.
