It's not the same as a defeat. He beat the man clearly in their only fight. "Ducking" a man you beat easily and uncontroversially in your only meeting is not going to be as damaging as ducking a man you never fought.
    This is very basic stuff.
Seeing as most people wondered why on earth Fury had ever signed a rematch contract anyway, his failure to face Wladimir twice doesn't taint his 1-0 score against the man.

Of course his behaviour and pulling out does taint his character and shows low standards professionalism but that's besides the point.

He's an undefeated 25-0 (former) heavyweight champion. He's not yet 29 years old.

Of course he needs to put in a lot of work on the comeback trail if he's to be ready for the big fights but that doesn't make him "100% irrelevant".

Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua have both said in the past couple of weeks that Fury is the BIGGEST potential fight out there.

WTF was he? Sending that video from the surface of Mars?

No, on second thought, couldn't be Mars.....no bars or cocaine on Mars.

Not sure a night on the beer with Billy Joe is a great starting point for a weight-loss program...

It's a bit more worrying for Billy Joe.

Fury's "July" comeback is probably sheer fantasy but Saunders is actually scheduled to fight on July 9th and looks about 200 pounds.

He was about 200llbs when he made that video telling GG to sign to fight. A bit of a clue to how serious he was...

I agree with you over Tyson. He's box office, whether people like it or not and more than capable of talking his way into a fight with anyone, once he's had a couple of ring-rust fights. And again, like it or not, he's a quality fighter and a threat to anyone as long as he can get back to somewhere near to the level he was at when he beat Wlad.

So Fury didn't duck Wlad? LOL

Fury couldn't handle the pressure of defending his titles and decided its better for him to stuff his face with 4 lbs of junkfood per day. That was HIS CHOICE. People need to stop finding mitigating circumstances for Fury. He's just lazy and unprofessional. That's a clear, inexcusable duck.

I expect AJ to win this Saturday. I guarantee you AJ's next fight will NOT be Tyson Fury. There's no way they will risk him ducking out again and costing Hearns millions.

The truth is Fury is a very boring fighter. He has the "zero" on his record but what else does Fury bring to the table? He's officially mentally unstable now. He has failed drug tests. He talks weird non-sense. Him and his entire family and management are very unreliable which is a no-no for big promotions and TV contracts.

All this wouldn't matter if Fury was highly exciting in the ring (think Mike Tyson who beat up reporters and got sentenced for raping a woman, yet people couldn't get enough of him). But Fury comes with a LOT of baggage and on top of that he is super boring. That's why I said Fury made himself irrelevant. It's his own doing, yet him and Peter Fury blame outside forces. It's pathetic really.

he seems mentally shot to me, I dont see a successful comeback unfortunately. the writings on the wall, he doesn't sound right. if he came back stable, with a coherent interview anouncing properly he was coming back I'd be more convinced. these twitter comments and strange videos just suggest the man is in turmoil to me.

Yes, but it's a fight they want to build for the future.
It's not as if Fury's become "100% irrelevant" or just some obscure has-been already. Maybe a year or two down the line that will be the case but at the moment he's still reckoned to be a potential factor to the current division. Being 350 pounds is the problem.

I'd expect Fury to come back against a tune-up opponent first to show people he's serious.

Everything you say here is the kind of ammunition Fury needs to motivate himself. It's about proving people wrong. I'm not disagreeing with you entirely but i'm saying it's not the dead end scenario you want to paint it as.

You know full well fighters can be extremely unreliable and still come back and get PPV fights (think David Haye).

Tyson Fury is already working with BoxNation, the UK's second largest broadcaster. If he comes back on that channel turns up to fight and looks good beating someone credible, he'll be considered reliable again already.
Boxing is a crazy business and promoters/broadcasters encounter this stuff. Fighters come back, or don't.

Admittedly, I haven't found all of Fury's fights as boring as you might have done. Boring or not, he's a good boxer.
