When it comes to floyd mayweather i have always admired and respected the guy! I only ever doubted his level of opposition and i always wondered how he would fare if he gets hurt. Last night answered those for me resoundingly. I felt floyd would EASILY beat mosely but not for one second did i think he would do this on the front foot bullying and completely nullifying everything mosely does! He was badly hurt in round 2. And what I ALWAYS wanted to see is floyd go all out and put all his skills on display, offensive and defensive. He did that against Shane. In my eyes he is the Best fighter on the planet! Having said that, i still feel Manny's Body of work through his career is slightly more impressive than Floyds. I feel his win over cotto was slightly better than FLoyd's last night, because i feel cotto is a far superior fighter to shane at this stage of their careers. So its really a toss up as to who is the p4p #1. I feel if the fight gets made floyd wins. But i dont believe for one second it will be as easy as last night! Pac will not freeze and even if floyd is dominating he will continue to throw combinations and try to hurt floyd! I feel its a clash between the best attack vs the best defense in boxing. But as we saw last night, floyd can also bang and attack! So this gives floyd a real edge. As i feel his offense is far far better than manny's defense The reason Pac will do better than shane is because along with handspeed he has tremendous FOOTSPEED aswel which is a very underrated commodity in boxing. He is always on the move throwing punches from all sorts of weird angles. This is why this fight HAS TO BE MADE! I dont think there is any other feasible opponent for mayweather. There are difficult fights out there for him, such as Paul williams, who is massive and has a massive work rate. But we know that fight would never happen. SO apart from Pac, there are no REAL megafights left for FLoyd! What a way to go out though? Dominate pac and he will go down as the greatest fighter of this era. IF he doesnt fight pac, there are many who have a point in claiming pac is the greatest as i still feel he has a slightly better resume! However if he beats pacquiao he leaves no doubt whatsoever in ANYONES mind hes the best.
agrees 100%. if Floyd is all about fighting for money at this point, the money lies with Pac. Roy Jones/Hopkins should have fought in 2002 and made a ton of money and sold a ton of PPVs. Instead they bitched and moaned, and waited almost 10 years. Nobody even cared about their fight last month. There is no one else for Floyd to fight.
All Manny has to do is sign on the dotted line. Floyd can't force the guy. Martinez would be a great and very significant fight.
Good post. There is no other fight for Manny or Floyd period. If they don't make this fight, it's an embarassment for boxing.
