Ok folks, so I’ll be visiting Wilfredo Gomez the week commencing March 13 and will have plenty of time for him to field questions. I’ll likely record them and then I can basically put them here in Q & A form once transcribed. I’ll pick (what I feel are) the best questions and put them to him.

Also visiting Felix Trinidad and Juan LaPorte and will create threads for them too.

    Awesome, Chris!

I have a few questions for Bazooka:

When do you feel you were at your absolute peak as a fighter?

Carlos Zarate has long claimed that he was sick before his fight with you. What are your thoughts on this? And do you think if you had rematched him, the fight would have gone any differently?

You were clearly the best super bantamweight champion ever. In your opinion, who are the best super bantamweight champions since your reign and how do you think you would have done against them?

Unreal. Look forward to you sharing. Thanks. Very interested to hear how Gomez is going after the intervention a little while back. Hope he's doing well.

Great stuff! Can’t wait to hear some responses from Gomez!

    Some questions for Gomez:

Had Sanchez not passed away early and a rematch were to take place how much differently would the fight have played out against Sanchez and what do you think he could have done better going in? Does he think he would have been even more motivated to perform better against Sanchez had they fought again and does he believe he could have beaten Sanchez?

It’s been said that he trained in Panama for a year to utilize better movement. Was there any fighters from Panama that he took inspirations from in terms of style?

Who does he think is the greatest Puerto Rican fighter of all time?

Awesome, hope you enjoy your time with them!

Being a miserable old fight fan, I'd like to hear Wilfredo's opinion on the state of today's boxing and how does he think it compares with his era. What does he think of super fast stoppages, the best not fighting the best as much?

Considering the fights he had inside and outside of the ring, If He can sum it up in One paragraph, what would he say?

    Awesome, thanks Chris.

    1. As the greatest SBW of all time, who does he rate as the greatest BW and FW ever?

    2. How much does he feel natural size played a part in his contests vs Zarate and Sanchez?

    3. Given Rocky's size, how did he adapt his approach vs Lockridge, relative to SBW where he just tore through his opponents?

    Thank you very much.

    Sounds awesome.
    1) Maybe You could consider asking him about making weight in his time. He looked like a very big Super Bantamweight, does He remember what was his walk-around weight, how much weight would He lose during training camp and on the week of the fight? Also how much weight would He regain by the time of the fight?
    2) Is there any fighter He really wanted to fight, but never got a chance to?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to that Q&A!

    Great work, @ChrisJS .

Puerto Rico seems to have hit a bit of a lull in recent years, currently lacking genuine stars and not producing as much fighting talent as times gone by. Why do you think this is, and what can be done to remedy it?

Do you think your reputation as a dirty fighter was warranted, and do you think it's hampered your legacy in any way?

    Great news mate!

What are his memories of the Pintor fight?

How much of a positive impact did training in Panama have on his career and his skill as a fighter? And if he has an opinion on Duran, Laguna, Marcel, Pedroza etc?

His opinion on his Harada, who was supposedly one of his favourite fighters as a youngster. And of Ortiz, Trinidad and Benitez (the three other best fighters from PR).

Probably obvious I suppose, but ask about PR prospects, please? Who is in the pipeline and what he thinks of their chances? What does he think of Berlanga and Xander Zayas?

Regarding the fight with Sanchez what surprised him about Salvador and what would he have done differently if they did have a rematch.

And then the somewhat generic ones who's the best he fought, toughest, most skilled hardest hitter etc

Also if he still follows the sport his though on Inoue and how does he feel he'd do in his era? Which current fighter most impresses him and which fighter reminds him of himself?

Unfortunately I’m not going to see him now. He & son flaked out and did so in a terrible manner. Agreed to the meeting, agreed to a paid signing and were very appreciative and happy that I would be inviting them to California and then all of a sudden Gomez is pissed and doesn’t “need a handout.” His ego got in the way and his son, despite knowing I spent $2200 on purchasing things, did not want to explain its not a handout but an actual paying for his autograph (which I’ve done with many legends, greater than him) and has decided to just not answer his phone. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. Very poor form and a terrible experience for me.

I will be seeing Tito Trinidad though. I’ve met Tito several times and he’s the antithesis of Gomez. Will soon post a thread for questions for Tito.
