What ways have fighters equipment been tampered with to give said fighter an advantage or even policies in boxing pushed aside enabling certain fighters another distinct advantage? 1. I was thinking of Trinidad's illegal hand wraps that enabled him a huge power advantage. 2. Some fighters not being checked on the scale for weight and in fact being over the catch weight for the fight.
gatti against gamache. gamache stepped on the scales and wieghted 140...good start now gatti please. gatti puts a foot and a half on then he steps off while his trianer screams "140!!!!!!!" and starts chugging water as soon as he is off the scales. clearly he was over the limit but who cares mayb eit was onl 3 pounds or so. on the day of the fight gatti is a 160 pounder and gamache is barely peaking over 147. and a brutal ko was revealed to us. panama lewis has had a record. the belif that he had somthing in the black bottle (i dont even know if it was black but that is of no consciquence) given to pryor that subsequently koed alexis arguello. possible solutions shnaps cocaine sugar water orange juice & honey coffee basicly; drugs, alcahol, caffiene, sugar....somthign that would rejuvenate you not really cheating but i wanna talk about somthing other that the obvious. a very unfair use of the high cup is always used. in lewis holyfield I or II when the lewis cup is actually above his solar plexus and about 2 inches away from his pecs This content is protected tiny picture i know but you can clearly see how much of a defacit that is.
i dont know who it was but it was a cruiseriweght fight in the u.k. about 10 years ago at cruiseriweght...i think it was above the domestic scene thing but still. there was one guy who had trained and sweated out to 190lbs and his opponant comes in at 218 pounds....what what what? why why why? this opponant who had come in at 218 lbs had called in earlier to the commison saying it was a heavywieght fight they had signed for not a cruiserwieght fight. thinking they made a mistake and not having a heavywieght attraction they made it a heavywieght division. tho niether the commision nor the managers thought to call this guy who had been draining and i dont even know who won...great one vantage no names no official wiehgt not even ho won what can i say im forgetful. it was in a interesting stories of boxing or somthing like that. till not necciserily cheating but unfair for a travalling opponant.
The term "cheating" is fairly open... although many alleged situations come to mind. The Monselle solution placed on Sonny Listons glove during the first Liston/Clay fight was a serious attemt to blind Clay. The 'slightly' opened glove when Clay faught Cooper, which Dundee ripped futher is another example, allowing Clay 3 minutes to recover from the knock down. 'Buffalo" Marin, during the Fenech/Nelson fight in Vegas hid Nelsons mouth guard in his coat pocket for close to a minute, allowing Nelson time to gain a rest, and recuperate. A very good old fight figure, now deceased, suggested to me that he told an 'over the weight' Fenech, to place his pinky finger, whilst on the scales, on the waist band of the 'now deceased man' in order to aleviate upto 400grams at the weigh in. The man Im talking about is not a liar, and a man who was connected to every aspect of the fight game.
The extra time given Clay in the Cooper bout was a matter of extra seconds not minutes. Don't take my word for it, watch the film.
Interesting comment. Where you at the fight?? Angelo Dundee says he was there, and I believe he may have been in Clays corner, in fact, I believe he ripped the glove open. He has stated during interviews over the last 45 years that a duration of 3 minuted elapsed whilst a second was sent to the dressing room to fetch another pair of gloves.
Bah. I was too lazy to post it the first time. Clay goes down at 3:03. Round 5 starts at 4:14. Notice the announcers voice is continous throughout the corner time, eliminating the idea of video editing of the supposed 3 minute break. Boxing Films can be edited. Dundee himself said there was a 3-4 minute break in-between the rounds right right after the fight. ESPN airs this video / audio information on Ali marathons. If you see and hear what I did, there is no doubt there was extra time, not in seconds but in minutes. Dundee could not spin facts right after this fight. It happened.
This is a myth that has gained legs over the years, much in the way the Leonard-Britton and Ketchel-Johnson fights have spiraled out of control and out of context in the annals of boxing. I recently researched this on all the immediate news reports of this fight. I scoured over the most detailed reports from the Associated Press, UPI and independent reports from media members conducting their own review including round by round reports and quotes from fighters, managers and promoters and do you want to know what kind of outcry there was on this? None! It wasn't even mentioned. There was no 3-4 minute break. What bit of a delay was beneath every paper and every cornerman's notice. In fact, the only slight mention I could find on this was made by a reporter from the Daily Mirror, who stated, "I thought some of the damage to Cooper's eye was done by Clay's glove, which was torn in the 4th." That was it! No mention of a delay. There was no change of gloves. It is a mythical story propogated by guys like Bert Sugar who have a wealth of old hat boxing stories he likes to tell. Let's put this one to rest. Scartissue
One of the recent fights (in the last few years) a guy from one of the fighters corners was caught trying to put his foot under the scale to tamper with it. I dont remember which fight but it was one of the ones where they guy couldnt make weight. I think it was one of the Castillo or Corrales fights.
Are you saying that his hands were not wrapped in a manner that is considered cheating, or that the way his hands were wrapped did not give an advantage?
Headbuts (including the suttle leading with the head), Low Blows, Elbows, Loaded Gloves, Rabit punches, holding and hitting, standing on toes, wrestling PEDs IMO weight draining (diuretics/saunas/sweat suits) to gain an unfair advantage
Having viewed the footage... and slow paused at several scene changes, I will have to credit you with myself standing corrected... there seems to be nothing available via the footage to suggest a few minutes edited. I still have Angelo Dundee on tape suggesting a delay of 3 mins. Another post from this site by James Slater, has also dismissed the lengthy delay, as Herny Cooper suggested there was several minutes. Fact or falacy??? It was mentioned for the last 45 years, and never has Dundee suggested otherwise.
