yeah, i'm also thinking, what got me was his 44 Ko's over his first 45 wins. and ending his career with 63 KOs over 66 wins. he has nine succesful defenses of his bantamweight title and i think all was by KO victory. but morales and barrera fought great mexicans in each other. this could be debatable.
There is no way Ruben Olivarez is better than Salvador Sanchez. Sanchez may have been a boxer/puncher, but he was damn good. No one knows how great he was going to be, but to beat some really good fighters at such a young age leads me to believe he would have been a great little champ for many years to come. Chavez may have been the greatest Mexican of all-time simply because he beat a lot of good fighters. It was also in his favor that there was no other Mexican champ who took the spotlight away from him. However, to carry the weight of an entire nation on one's shoulders in never an easy task, and Chavez more than made his country proud. He cemented his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all-time. Gomez and Tito, in my opinion, are the two best PR champs to date. The others fall into place in no particular order. The devastation these two caused in their respective heyday was something to be reckoned with.
88 wins and 78 wins by KO, one of the best bantamweights ever and also two-time featherweight champ. it's hard to make a better record than that of olivares even if you're sanchez. sanchez looked good in many fights but he also looked bad in others. some say he goes down to the level of his opponent. he don't look so hot against a green nelson, in some fights he was damn boring and those were against untalented opponents. what carried sanchez was his resume. who knows what he could've achieved but in terms of real achievement, olivares holds this over sanchez
Mexico had produced better all times greats but Puerto Rico p4p is the best boxing country in the world. Better Fighters Mexico Better boxing background and School for make good fighters Puero Rico
No other fighter to take the spotlight? Chavez completely overshadowed great title reigns of Ricardo Lopez & Humberto Gonzalez. Not to mention Jose Luis Ramirez. & the early part of Barrera's career.
ok guys... here is my assestment as a proud Puertorican. #1. There have been more Mexican fighters than PR fighters. Please take in consideration that PR only has 4.8 million people living in the island today and another 4.8 or so living outside of the island. In comparison to Mexico that has a much larger population. #2. Puerto Rico has had a champion in every weight class including the HW (although it wasn't the preetiest one but for the record it counts). #3. Puerto Rico has produced less amount of boxers but they are most of all quality boxers. P4P we are the best boxing place in the world. #4. An assigment to you all... In championship fights between PR vs Mexico.... PR is winning!!!!!!!!!!! PS.... Joan Guzman is Dominican... Just for the record
:good As a Proud Mexican, I can live with that post bro. Heavyweight Champ is something Mexico prob will NEVER have. (No matter how much peep's hate the Ruiz, Oquendo's) Prop's on clearing up the Guzman thing aswell, I knew it.
I don't know if I agree with you on the HW opinion.... As of this Saturday I have to consider myself a Chris Areola fan... I really hope he makes it someday and gets a belt. :happy For sure, he is better than Ruiz so be proud of that!! jajaja
You're right.:good PR's population runs around 4 mill. Less, actually, if you take into account the exodus caused by our great governor. Puerto Ricans outside PR or americans from PR descent should run around 4 mills also.
Don't forget the Nuevo Rican's in New York. That's funny! I remember that term when I was reading about Hector Camacho a few years ago. Well still there would be at least as many if not more Mexicans/Chicano's in Los Angeles.
