YEs Durans father was Chicano from the US. Aguirres dad was Mexican and i heard he was talking of playing for Mexico(since his dad was born there) back then in the Olympics, this was the same time that they formed the first American Dream team. Joe Kapp (former viking probowler) is also Mexicanand Native American some of my older family members have said he is a distant relative. Jim Plunkett is also Mexican most think he is Indian but he is more Mexican the father changed the name cause of racial discrimination so they could buy a home. Plunkett was a relatives maiden name.

Orale. Thanks karnal. I hope James Edward Olmos keeps making more videos on famous or important people with Mexican or Hispanic descent to help inspire the youth and to remind people not to forget where they came from. When people bring up the question on who was the best Mexican basketball player they come up with Najera, probably so since he was born there, but Aguirre was a badass back in the day.

Well they probably dont mention Aguirre since his mother is black and he looks more black, but he is way better than Najera , Aguiirre made the Allstart team a few times and for a few years he was always in the top 5 scorers in the NBA. Najera is more of a workhorse and solid backup type player.

What was the last movie Olmos made about a Latino? Last i saw of him he was one of the main charachters in Battelstar Gallatica.

I seen him at a restraunt in Olvera street a few years back, he was eating with a bunch of people (i was at the Bar) anyways someone says I know who you are And he would say yey Im Carlos Santana:lol: He had long hair at the time and he did resemble Santana.

There was another Mexican in the NBA Romel Beck... you can find video of him. In one shot he schools Kobe... but he got cut.

Incidentally, Danny de la Paz shot a film at my parents bar in East LA called Suckers... he filmed there for about 3 weeks. Nice guy but definitely not a thug.

Heard a rumor about Delapaz( is he the guy from Boulevard Nights and American Me?) but ill save it since i dont know if its true.
Never heard of Romel Beck what college is he from? Oh yeah another 1/2 Mexican in the NBA is Earl Watson of the Pacers he also use to play at UCLA. I use to like Lorenzo Mata Real and thought he had a shot at the NBA but i hear he is playing in Europe he was a 6-9 Power forward.

Correction: Edward James Olmos, not James Edward Olmos. Se me chispotio. I remember watching the Champions Forever: The Latin Legend vids with him narrating on Latino fighters like Duran, Gavilan, Sanchez, etc. Those were the vids I was referring too.

I still have never seen those videos and would like to check them out.

I thought you were talking about when he played the teacher in Stand and Deliver true story. Also portrayed Cheyenne Cadena in American Me which was also based on a true story although the changed some facts around, but that wasnt exactly about an Upstanding Model citizen.:yep

    Where are you from Chivito?

If you ever do, and especially around this time, Padre Island is the place to be. :goodI would avoid Reynosa or Matamoros tho.
