    Darchinyan: Arce not a fight!

Unified super flyweight champion Vic "Raging Bull" Darchinyan (31-1-1, 25 KOs) has ripped into WBA interim super flyweight champion Jorge Arce (51-4-1, 38 KOs), whom he will fight on February 7, 2009 and will be televised live on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing. "I can't get enough of Mexican fighters," said Darchinyan. "They bounce real good off the canvas when I hit them. Let's see, I've stopped Cristian Mijares, Victor Burgos and Luis Maldonado over the past two years. Unlike Jorge Arce, those three fighters were very tough hombres. Defeating Arce won't take much training. It won't even be a fight for me!"[/FONT]

2 very outspoken guys going at it. I can't wait to see some of their press conferences when the fight nears. I also wanna see if Arce responds to this.

This is a good example of what we discussed previously.

Latinos (Mexicans in particular) are good at hyping their fighters and the fights they are in. Rarely do you see a negative comment.

Other groups would immidiately respond with "Vic is an overrated clown waiting to get exposed" "who has he fought?" and pictures of Vic hitting the canvas would be everywhere in this thread.

Latinos on the other hand try to build an aura of legacy around any latino fight. "Wow, crazy **** - can't wait to see what Arce comes back with!"

I like it, and maybe this active promotion of latino fighters and fights explain the bias in p4p rankings. But others really have themselves to blame for being so negative against some and fans of others that in the end the result is grey.

why you pickin on me :nono  jk!

the only thing I wasn't upset about this comment is because Arce is a ****-talker himself so I know he's going to fire back with some **** about getting KO'd by Donaire or some ****

But if he were to say this to a more humble fighter who is gracious or just an overall true sportsman that would be offensive to me...why? Idk...call it compassion

I understand throwing some dirt makes fights more interesting, but in some cases it goes a bit overboard and highly personal...which is about as cowardly and malicious as a low blow or intentional headbutt...

There's definitely going to be some fireworks in this match-up...and you pose a considerably good argument about hype and "latino-bias"...i've contemplated this idea many times and i think the latino bias thing goes with the devotion of blood and sweat most mexican fighters give to the sport...because let's face it...THIS IS A BLOOD SPORT! anyone who denies this fact and says they watch boxing because footwork is pretty needs to shut the ****in' TV off and join ballet...true Mexican fighters constantly talk ****, seek out the best, fight with their heart and pride on the line, look for the KO and constantly give it their all...these aspects may be the cause for putting them above certainly exceptional fighters who have AWESOME talent, but lack the "mexican" aspect to their performances...
