You are. Internationally; unless it's say the US and Canada, it's really hard. But domestically it's not that hard; at the Olympic invitational held in the US with China and Brazil this year; there was a rematch of the finals of this year's 165lbs Nationals; Luis Arias vs Shawn Porter because it didn't get to happen the first time through at Nationals; when Porter was medically DQ'd. That was a national feature bout, actually.
Here's the statement by Anwar Chowdhry, as printed in the Los Angeles Times, Sept 28th, 1988 (Roy's fight happened Oct 1st); "At our world championships in Moscow, in September, 1989, we will introduce electronic scoring. Each judge will have two buttons in front of him, each representing a different boxer. For each scoring blow a judge will push a button, and that punch will be shown on the scoreboard next to the judge's number. For the first time in boxing the public will see blow-by-blow scoring." - he said a little bit more, but that's Anwar Chowdhry's statement on Sept 27th, 1988 There's other sources on that, as there are in regards to the Robinson/Roldan controversy in 1968, but for a quick look, here's Sports Illustrated's short writeup on the bout, as printed in their Nov 4th, 1968 issue; "Featherweight Albert Robinson, 21, on leave from the U.S. Naval Air Station in Alameda, Calif., for a while came away with nothing at all--although he was, in his bout, walloping the frijoles out of Mexico's Antonio Roldan. Suddenly the blood came gushing from Roldan's forehead. Robinson had butted, the Russian referee said, although he made the call when Robinson was pounding merrily away on Roldan's head at arm's length. Robinson was disqualified, which cost him the gold and almost the silver. At first, that was denied him, as was the bronze. Fortunately, an appeal was upheld the next day and Robinson was decked in silver." That's one of the "kinder" versions of what happened.
He's a pro now; but Danny Jacobs was an awesome amateur who I really liked. I have a friend who might be turning pro in the next year who's also a really good, exciting fighter. Shawn Porter if he turns pro could be a beast. Gary Russell will be good, so will Raynell Williams. Hylon Williams is already pro and will be good I expect too.
That it was. I have absolutely no clue on what frijoles are, but I can't imagine it being very good for Roldan to have them, whatever they are, beat out of him.
Yeah, he was damn fast. And he's actually 6'1, not little; either. I didn't get to see his fight with Estrada, so I don't know what happened with those matches. I saw him beat Shawn Porter at the Trials though; those two guys styles always made for rough fights.
i've seen jacobs fight live twice, and twice on tv...the kid is a ****en beast i've also seen another dude from the golden boy camp also, he only has like 5 fights, but looks to be alright....looks to have more of a crowd pleasing style..... danny garcia i think his name is...
I agree. As much as I was waiting for it, it turned into a total disapointment. Any fight involving a Chinese fighter is a 99% guaranteed robery. I stopped watching it as well.
