For those who enjoy a good fight by excellent fighters. A bit of background on both fighters: Guty Espadas was short even for a flywt. He reminded me of a prime "Mantiquilla"Napoles, in the way he threw compact punches like Napoles. He had been the WBA flywt champ, by defeating Alfonso Lopez, who was 25-0, coming in. He successfully defended the title four times before losing a majority dec to the great Betulio Gonzalez. A funny thing about Alonso Lopez, he fought Guty twice and both times he was stopped in the 13th. Guty was 33-3-5, 24ko's. Chan Hee Park Park, I just found out was a great amateur, who had a career beginning like Lomenchenko. Park fought a 10rdr in his 3rd pro fight. In his 11th pro fight, he fought probably the best boxer ever to come out of Mexico, an ATG and HOF'r, Miguel Canto, in a 15 rd fight. They fought again and this time it was a 15rd draw. About 3 months later he fought this fight. Park, coming in, 9-0-2, 5ko's. Enjoy, https://youtu.be/xMANXWB2ebc
A non-boxing note: Yes, it's true; Koreans only had black & white TV even as late as 1979 (and later). In fact, I watched this very telecast in Seoul, and I think we were still living in martial law. A lot has changed there...
I can imagine. A little story, I was involved in the Joey Gamache vs Chil-Sung Jun, fight. I was sitting in the lobby of the hotel Jun was staying at. One of Jun's trainer's, was sitting next to me, when all of a sudden, he started rubbing my arm, I said WTF, was going on, before I started liking it. The interpreter told me, not to be alarmed, its that Korean's don't seem to have hairy arms and I do, and that they didn't mean anything by it. I thought it was cos they liked me lol
LMAO! Incidentally, Jun was another guy who should've turned pro much earlier - much like Sung-Kil moon or Kwang-Sun Kim. Of course, he still likely wouldn't have been a world champion - whereas Moon was still an all-time super flyweight and Kim may have been all-time light flyweight had he turned pro early.
