Felix Ajom vs. Michael Pappoe, 12 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Pappoe in the white pleated trunks with a purple cross on the buttocks. Ajom in gold with black trim and his nickname "Alvaro" printed down his right thigh.

...in other words, a lot of potent firepower in there.

 

..injury? Pooped his pants? Why did Ajom waddle to his corner like that, all bow-legged?

 

The winner of this one, I believe, is going to be the mandatory next challenger for the winner of the main event (which is for the vacant Ghanaian national super featherweight title). Ajom lost a UD for the belt to Michael Ansah one year ago*, while Pappoe defeated Ansah by SD early in their respective pro careers in 2012. Neither has ever fought Ansah's opponent, Dodoo, who is a late replacement for Benjamin Lamptey (who beat Dodoo via MD in 2015 but is now on a three loss skid, including two against Sherrif Quaye).

*while Ansah never lost the belt in the ring, and nobody has fought over it since, he did move up to lightweight for most of this year, scoring a knockout against Sherrif Quaye (who also has a draw with Ajom) to avenge his SD loss to Quaye in the fall of 2018, but then suffering a DQ loss in an overseas assignment versus Terry Flanagan in Belfast. Ajom was actually scheduled to vie for the vacant belt on December sixth, but obviously with Ansah's return to 130lbs he received first crack...probably much to Alvaro's chagrin.

Gotta say, I really wasn't expecting this one to go deep. Guessing the promoters weren't, either...at this rate, if this goes the distance, it'll be about midnight local time before the main event gets underway. (as late, tbf, as the Bastie Samir vs. Sunday Ajuwa main event yesterday)

 

Ajom running late, constantly, judges won't look kindly on that.
