Great night, I was cheering for you, but let's put it in perspective. Clean up domestically and win the CL in the same season, then you'll get full props.
Afternoon gents..... Just back from a week in Cyprus and straight back into work for the weekend.... CLASS. Anyways... Brodie has been training in his old gym (Collyhurst) and indeed was menat to fight but the show was postponed. Its back on however i'm not sure about what Boxrec is saying coz the 21st is a Tuesday night and I've have had it down as being on FFN but who knows. As for the Farnell point, yes he got caught up in the moment and yes he got knocked out but come on, lay off the man. Gaz I understand you, being a 'bin-dipper' an'all but he was loved in Manchester at the time (more so than Hatton at one point), he genuinely put everything he had into the sport (and carries on doing so) and gave us some top nights along with Hatton in the MEN.
Hey!! I didn't have a go at Farnell as a fighter Dan, I just said that as soon as he started wearing that Man U top into the ring (I think he did it the fight before Tak as well) he was never going to make it on my Christmas card list......;O)
This is exactly how I see it. Harrison looked a million dollars against guys like Chacon and McCullough, basic fighters who stayed in front of him. Against guys like Medina and Polo who gave him angles and kept him off balance, he looked lost at times even though Medina was way past it. Brodie was a tough, well schooled technician with very good technical attributes. A lot of Harrison's fans (hi Dunky!) seem to perpetuate a myth that Harrison walked right through Brodie. In fact, after a good first, he was getting outboxed through most of the second and third, even the fourth until the KO. The difference was, Brodie at that point had just been through too many wars, you could see the "I can't put myself through this again" look on his face. Put them in the ring at the time of the first Chi fight and he would have been able to. He probably wouldn't have stopped the tough Harrison, but his punches were faster, sharper and his defense better and I would have taken him to win a comfortable decision despite being the smaller man.
Without meaning to sound too disrespectful of Scottish fighters, does anyone else think they are all **** ? Buchanan was good, but never legend status, infact he's probably made more of a name for himself due to his constant bitching about Duran and his drinking/wanting to fight at 63. Harrison was would have been ironed out by Brodie in his day as he would have been by Tapia, Naseem, Ayala and Marquez Arthur is seriously overated.... smashed to bits by Gomez, 30 seconds longer and Foster would have planted him, Nicky Cook outboxed him. All this talk about him fight Guzman makes me wee with laughter.... GUZMAN WOULD HAVE LEVELLED HIM !!! McEwan seems ok but wont make it at the top level in my opininon
Go on the classic forum Buchanan is rated very highly. Buchanan is great in my mind defintily a top Lightweight and one of the best ring generals as a lightweight. your underating him. what about Benny Lynch or Jim watt there good
Jim Watt talks shite and was totally dispatched by the late great Arguello (no shame in that I know). Just a wind up post really. Nice letter Matthew Murray by the way.
Ken Buchanan is only rated because he lost contraversially to Duran? :huh Ever heard of Benny Lynch or Jackie Paterson? Have a word with yourself.
TFFP - Have a word with yourself pal. Where did I say that was the only reason he was rated ? Nowhere I said he's probably made more of a name for himself out of his constant moaning. I know Older people who saw him fight may remember him for differnet reasons however when I (and lots of people who I know) think of him, the first thing that springs to mind is that. And if you look, I clearly stated it was a wind up !!
