Great fight between 2 of the greatest little men of the sport, this is one of the best hypothetical matchups at the lower weights. Would Lopez outbox Carbajal to a decision, or could Carbajal pull off the upset, who wins this battle?

    Could’ve and should’ve happened.

I think Lopez boxes conservatively and using his jab and beautiful footwork to keep Carbajala step or two behind all fight to win a comfortable UD.

Carbajal would remain dangerous looking to land a fight turning big punch he was capable of finding but Lopez was too complete a fighter to fall into complacency or get suckered into a war like Chiquita Gonzalez did in their first fight.

Carbajal was the bigger man & an excellent fighter in his own right, but there is a yawning chasm in gifts here I just can’t ignore. Lopez via decision.

A fight that really should have happened. Carbajal had the power to always be dangerous throughout and I can see him catching Lopez good and possibly hurting him. But with that said I think Finito would have outboxed Carbajal for a good majority of the fight. Too much finesse and skill. Gonzalez was able to beat Carbajal twice following his first defeat to him by boxing smart. Lopez would have done the same and should win via decision, although with a few shaky moments here and there.

    Better fight: Carbajal-Gonzalez I or Vazquez-Marquez III?

It’s easy for me. I’m a Marquez fan, so definitely Carbajal-Gonzalez I. That was devastating to watch…he had Vazquez I thought in the first half of that fight.

What an excellent matchup this would have been. Having lived through that era, it was a fight that definitely SHOULD have happened. It would have added to both of their legacies.

I'd take Lopez on points after some though but Carbajal had the will to hang tough and be competitive against just about anyone.

Lopez had the skills to jab around Carbajal good, but if Carbajal lands one big, perfect punch in the inside range...

I think Carbajal ok points, while possible, is the least likely outcome here. Lopez was the better boxer and Carbajal the bigger puncher so I think if Carbajal wins it would more likely be a come from behind KO or TKO.

Both very composed operators, but Lopez is the superior technician here. He has a better quality defense than Carbajal and while Carbajal carries more fire power (albeit that I doubt there is a huge amount of difference in that), I suspect Lopez has a broader array of offensive options.

Carbajal used his pressure to bait his opponents into making mistakes, being a sharp counter-puncher. However, I don't envisage Lopez making a whole lot of errors, to be frank. Quite oppositely, I can see Lopez's movement and defensive savvy forcing Carbajal to open up during his pressure campaigns, giving Lopez the opportunities to score well on the counter.

It goes the distance. Carbajal has his moments, but is ultimately outdone.

    Lopez W UD (116-112)
